There were a lot of high-stakes story beats in the second season of Elsbeth season 3.
It currently remains unclear. Angus clearly occupies a large space in Elsbeth’s heart, and even the Elsbeth season 2 finale mentions him by name as someone Tascioni might visit if she ever saw fit to leave New York. However, it appears that any plans of bringing him back to the show may depend on scheduling and contracting issues. The good news for fans is that both the showrunners and Ioan Gruffudd himself would like to see Angus return. Speaking with ScreenRant, showrunner Jonathan Tolins said:
All I’ll say is, I hope it’s not closed. I would love to have Ioan [Gruffudd] back on, and I think he’s interested. I would love to have him come back and visit New York again or take the show to Scotland. Although I will say that we are not looking to sort of pair up Elsbeth. I think one of the things about our show is that this is a woman who’s reinvented herself, who is divorced, and is really focused on her work and not looking to be permanently attached to another person. And I think that’s fresh and true to the character. But yes, we love Angus, and I would love to see him back on.
What Angus’ Possible Return Means For Elsbeth Season 3
Elsbeth Might Travel To Scotland This Time
With Carra Patterson’s Kaya Blanke leaving Elsbeth as a mainstay cast member, Tascioni needs all the emotional she can get. In just one episode, Ioan Gruffudd’s Angus proved himself capable of providing that with little more than a song on Spotify. But the biggest takeaway from Tolins’ comments is that Elsbeth might fly out to see Angus next time around instead of waiting for him to come to New York. This could have humongous ramifications for the series.

There's Still Hope For Elsbeth's Best Romance Chances (Despite CBS Cutting It Short)
Elsbeth's best chance at finding love technically ended after one episode, but, surprisingly, the door’s still wide open for it to continue.
To date, Elsbeth has rarely operated outside of the NYPD’s jurisdiction. She has completed an investigation with Wagner in Cape Cod, but she’s certainly never traveled as far as Scotland on the show. Tolins seems to be implying that a future episode of Elsbeth could see the title character flying across the pond to meet with Angus. Whether she flies to him or vice versa, the chance to see them build their relationship while solving another murder together will likely strike many fans as a compelling premise.
Our Take On Elsbeth Season 3’s Possible Angus Return
Elsbeth Doesn’t Need A Romantic Story Arc
It makes sense that the showrunners would want to preserve Elsbeth’s status as an independent woman. This has never been a show about a woman aching for romance, and she even tells her son Teddy that she partly likes Angus because he doesn’t come with baggage. That may sound like an odd statement from a woman who carries four tote bags at a time, but Elsbeth has seen Tascioni explore her sense of independence throughout season 2. She deserves to meet back up with Angus, but the showrunners are right that she also deserves it on her own .
