When wearing the Captain America mask, Elsa is given super strength, speed, and agility, while her Bloodgem’s power is extended to her chest and her new shield. While she sports the stripes of the American flag, the overall tone of her outfit is quite similar to the British hero Union Jack. If given the chance, Elsa might not turn down a chance to become Captain Britain.

Now she serves in X-Force, officially abandoning her Captain Britain costume as well. However, Captain Britain isn’t the same kind of hero that Captain America is; the title serves a much higher purpose. More than just a patriotic super soldier, Captain Britain is only one of many across the multiverse chosen by Merlyn to protect their realities and the fantastical Arthurian dimension called Otherworld.

With Betsy having abandoned her duties as Captain Britain to focus on the ongoing struggle for mutant rights, someone else needs to fill the role.
