Renowned actor and producer Elijah Wood tweets his excitement about the trailer for Return to Monkey Island. First appearing as "Video Game Boy" in Back to the Future 2, Elijah's had a long and impressive acting career. He is well known for his acting in various roles such as Frodo from The Lord of the Rings, Wirt from Over the Garden Wall, Spyro in the Legend of Spyro trilogy, and many more.

The Secret of Monkey Island games is a series of point-and-click adventures first debuting in 1990. In Monkey Island player character Guybrush Threepwood is an ambitious yet oftentimes naive young man who dreams of becoming a pirate. In his adventures, he proves his worth as a swashbuckler by solving puzzles and battling pirates, most notably the evil ghost pirate LeChuck. The two have a heated rivalry spanning the entire series, which is only fanned by their shared love for Governor Elaine Marley. The pirate-themed series has been a popular favorite among fans of the point and click genre for decades, right alongside titles such as Sierra's King's Quest or LucasArt's Day of the Tentacle. This is further evidenced by the fact that several references to Guybrush can be found in both The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

Return to Monkey Island. Wood's palpable excitement is well deserved, as the trailer states that the story of Return to Monkey Island will "pick up where Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge left off". LeChuck's Revenge came out in December of 1991, thirty-one years ago.

Elijah Wood had a starring role in another point and click adventure game, Shay from Tim Schafer's Broken Age. Tim Schafer was also one of the designers for the Monkey Island games, so perhaps it shouldn't come as a shock that Elijah is a fan of the series. Especially as the trailer reveals that several familiar and beloved names are part of the project, such as Dominic Armato returning to voice Guybrush Threepwood and the director of the original Secret of Monkey Island series Ron Gilbert.

While Elijah Wood may be only one of many voices sharing their joy for the trailer drop, his excitement only adds to the hype as his fans jump on board with him. The decades wait for the story's continuation and perhaps reveal of what exactly the secret of Monkey Island is, may finally be revealed in this next game. Return to Monkey Island is slated to be released later in 2022.
