Pixar has released the trailer for their film Elemental, introducing a love story that takes place in an entirely new world. Over the years, Pixar's bread and butter has been providing fans with a different perspective on worlds, objects, or concepts that they think they know. This includes toys, cars, emotions, and even the monsters in their closets or under their beds. In this case, the film will create a world where the elements that make up the world - earth, fire, water, and air - are sentient beings with their own culture and society.

Today, Pixar projects like Monsters Inc. and Inside Out, the trailer depicts a mysterious, fiery young woman named ember getting on a train and walking past a variety of creatively designed characters whose various elements interact both positively and negatively with one another. When her headphones are accidentally knocked off her head, she has a meet-cute with a water being named Wade, kicking off a love story in which "opposites react," according to the tagline. Everything We Know About Pixar's Elemental

Pixar's Elemental

So far, a great deal of the plot of Elemental has been kept under wraps. This teaser doesn't reveal much about the plot, choosing to explore the world and the way that its inhabitants interact with one another. However, it is known that Ember is played by Leah Lewis, who is best known for her work in The CW's Nancy Drew and the 2020 teen film The Half of It.

Opposite Lewis, Wade is played by Mamoudou Athie, who recently appeared as Ramsay Cole in Jurassic World: Dominion. So far, no other of the cast have been announced, though it can be assumed that several Pixar mainstays will be delivering performances alongside other stars who are yet to be announced. The film was directed by Peter Sohn, who has been working with Pixar for the better part of two decades. In addition to working as a storyboard artist, consultant, or animator on films including Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, he also directed the Pixar short "Partly Cloudy," which played before Up in 2009, as well as the 2015 feature The Good Dinosaur.

The description below the Elemental also reveals a few previously unknown elements of the film. They are largely character details of the Element City couple, including the fact that Ember is "tough, quick-witted and fiery," and Wade is a "fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy." However, the description also reveals that, in addition to learning that their supposed opposites have more in common than they think, Wade evidently "challenges [Ember's] beliefs about the world they live in," which implies there may be more going on in this world than meets the eye. In addition to a love story, Wade and Ember may have to face off against a societal construct like Mike and Sully's revelation that screams may not be the only viable energy source during the events of Monsters Inc.
