Dawnguard's story is relatively straightforward, expanding on Skyrim's vampirism. The Volkihar Clan is a group of vampires led by Lord Harkon who represent a growing threat to Tamriel. The Dawnguard is a collection of those determined to slay the vampires. Players can choose which faction to aid, unveiling Harkon's plan to fulfill an Elder Scroll prophecy and permanently block out the sun.
Regardless of whether players choose the Volkihar or Dawnguard path, both share a unified ending, not uncommon in The Elder Scrolls. Players team up with Serana, Harkon's daughter, to kill him and thwart his dark plan. However, if he were to canonically succeed, or another megalomaniac vampire took up the quest in his stead, it could significantly alter the course of narrative and gameplay for The Elder Scrolls 6.
The Elder Scrolls 6 Could Show A Dark Tamriel Full Of Vampires
If Tamriel was in eternal darkness, it could pose radical changes to the political narrative of The Elder Scrolls 6. Lack of sunlight would immensely buff vampire's powers, making it likely Tamriel would have a bloodsucking overlord as opposed to another faction taking over in wake of a waning Empire. If that turns out to be the case, the main quest in The Elder Scrolls 6 will probably center on a player being called on to end the vampiric reign and restore the sun. Outside of the struggle to avoid being turned (or ing the vampire forces), this could prove to be a fascinating way to introduce more lore around the Elder Scrolls and their powers.
As it currently stands, there is not much of a difference between night and day in The Elder Scrolls games other than visibility. A vampire-ridden Tamriel without a sun could change that. It opens the possibility of encountering wolves and other creatures in Tamriel who have been infected with vampirism, adding a layer of danger to encounters. Fire would also become a valuable commodity, as vampires are extremely susceptible to the element and would likely work to eliminate it from the land. A region without the sun would also encourage gameplay styles that rely on stealth, rewarding thieves and assassins, and limiting open-air combat options. A sunless Elder Scrolls 6 could also introduce a new category of items, crafted to improve player's darkvision.
