Belurat, Tower Settlement is the first main dungeon in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. While designed for early exploration, it presents formidable challenges with its maze-like layout and relentless enemies. Venturing through with minimal guidance causes players to frequently lose their way through backtracking and aimless wandering. The complexity is heightened by numerous locked entrances and the task of locating several keys to navigate through the dungeon effectively.

Strategic exploration is integral to make Belurat Tower Settlement more digestible. By following a sequence of areas, you can significantly streamline the process. By tackling the settlement in a planned order, players can unlock shortcuts, gather valuable loot, and organize their journey to face the final boss more efficiently.

Where To Find Belurat, Tower Settlement In Elden Ring

'Main Gate Cross' Site of Grace

Map of Belrat, Tower Settlement in Elden Ring.

Belurat, Tower Settlement is situated northwest of Gravesite Plain, the first Site of Grace activated by players in the Land of Shadows. To reach the settlement, ride Torrent up the hill and through the large stone archway west of the 'Three-Path Cross' Site of Grace.

Ascending further, you'll find another Site of Grace named 'Main Gate Cross,' home to friendly NPCs Ansbach and Moore, and a Miquella's Cross with a Scadutree Fragment in Elden Ring.

Scadutree Fragments, essential in the DLC, are consumables that permanently boost offensive and defensive capabilities at any Site of Grace.

Upon entering the main doors of the tower settlement, you'll face a giant scorpion and its offspring at the top of the stairs, guarding the Revered Spirit Ash positioned on the central statue. A Shadow Realm Rune [1]is also located behind the statue.

Belurat, Tower Settlement Lower Town

Player walking in lower town of Belrat, Tower Settlement in Elden Ring.

Belurat Tower Settlement can be confusing to navigate, with multiple layers to explore. Start by venturing through the lower town to access several Sites of Grace for easy, fast travel.

Upon ascending the main steps, activate the 'Belurat, Tower Settlement' Site of Grace on your left and rest before continuing. Directly ahead, a small room houses two aggressive undead ghosts and a locked door, inaccessible from this side. Instead, explore east towards an open area with a central fountain.

Throughout the settlement, numerous non-hostile shades are seen praying on the ground; these can be ignored unless you're farming Runes in Elden Ring. Be wary of the shades that stand tall and wield knives.

One such shade near the fountain will attack with a large cleaver. Defeat it to collect 1x Stimulating Boluses from the nearby corpse. Continue around the fountain and head towards the pond by the waterfall to find a corpse with x3 Knot Resin.

Watch out for another hostile shade concealed behind the waterfall, ready to ambush as you approach.

Lower Town Main Street

After collecting your loot from the fountain plaza, ascend the small stairs south to reach the main street. Look up to spot two sorcerer shades casting magical whispers at you. You can dodge their attacks or engage them from a distance to clear your path.

Be cautious of a cleaver shade patrolling the area alongside a tall, thin dagger shade. Consider luring them back towards the fountain area for an easier fight away from the sorcerers.

To the west, amidst shades worshiping a statue, find x1 Somber Smithing Stoneon the ground. You must defeat these shades to claim it, but they won't initiate combat. Nearby, you'll see a well. Avoid descending the long ladder now, as the gate at the bottom requires a key that is not yet available. Keep in mind you'll return here later once you've obtained the key.

Reach 'Small Private Altar' Site of Grace

To find the next Site of Grace and progress to the settlement, turn back towards where the sorcerers were firing towards you. Enter a small alleyway to your right, where you'll find 1x Messmerfire Grease at the end. Be cautious, as a sleeping cleaver shade is also present.

Head east up the stairs with care, as this area is dense with enemies. You can either dodge past them or engage them individually. First, handle a cleaver and dagger shade duo approaching from above before proceeding.

As you ascend, watch for another dagger emerging from a doorway on your left and a cleaver shade sitting directly in front of you. Another cleaver shade lurks behind you to the right; consider luring them down the slope to fight in a more open space.

After defeating them, continue upwards to collect x3 Black Pyrefly from a corpse in the right corner.

Enter the doorway and follow the room to the left before heading up the stairs. A dagger shade awaits in the corner by some pots. Eliminate him and smash the pots to uncover x1 Silver Horn Tender on the floor.

Players can finally proceed up the stairs to rest at the 'Small Private Altar' Site of Grace, ready to explore the next section of Belurat, Tower Settlement in Elden Ring.

Belurat, Tower Settlement Upper Town

Player fighting invader Fire Knight Queelign in Elden Ring.

After resting at the Site of Grace, by the left ageway for now and ascend the stairs to your right. You can sneak by or engage a formidable Horned Warrior in Elden Ring patrolling this area, aiming to turn right.

This guard executes large swings with his swords and deadly ranged attacks for those seeking a challenge. Time your attacks carefully and dodge as necessary.

Continuing right, you'll encounter a group of aggressive shades near some crumbled buildings. Slay each of them and proceed down the steps to a courtyard featuring a large tree in the center. Here, you'll face an NPC invader named Fire Knight Queelign.

Defeat Fire Knight Queelign

As his name implies, Fire Knight Queelign wields various fire attacks. To counter this, consider using a Fireproof Dried Liver found earlier to reduce fire damage. While he attacks quickly, he is prone to interruption, allowing you to stagger him and land multiple hits. Be vigilant of his magic attacks and prevent him from drinking a health-restoring potion when his health is low by keeping him staggered.

Upon defeating Fire Knight Queelign, he drops 6530 runes and the Crusade Insignia Talisman in Elden Ring, which boosts your attack power after defeating an enemy.

After handling the invader, explore the area for additional items. Behind the central tree, you will find the Ash of War: Shriek of Sorrow on a corpse and can collect x3 Black Pyrefly from another corpse seated on a bench facing the tree.

Once cleared through, return to rest at the 'Small Private Altar' Site of Grace. Continue your exploration by taking the previously ignored left age. Your next objective is to find the Storeroom Key to advance further in Belurat, Tower Settlement.

Where to find the Storeroom Key

After resting, fight or avoid the horned knight again by navigating over the crumbled houses. Beware of large hostile birds perched on the rooftops who deal fire damage. After crossing the rooftops, you'll return to a familiar area: a small ageway leading to a sewer runoff.

A shade will ambush you from the right, so proceed cautiously. Eliminate another dagger shade directly ahead and two cleaver shades in this area—one by the sewer grate and another around the corner to your left.

Collect x3 Redflesh Mushrooms from the corpse by the sewer grate, then follow the sewer stream south.

You’ll encounter another cleaver shade near a waterfall and a dagger shade hiding behind the ageway on your right. After dealing with them, pick up x4 String at the waterfall's edge. Enter the small ageway, confront the approaching dagger shade, and ignore the other if it does not engage.

Climb the ladder and retrieve the Storeroom Key from the corpse by the door. Hold on to this for now, saving it for later use.

When you head back outside, you'll be on the main path leading towards the boss, which crosses the rooftops. However, it's recommended to unlock a crucial shortcut first to simplify your continued exploration significantly.

How To Open The Shortcut in Belurat, Tower Settlement

Save Time

Player walking across Belrat, Tower Settlement Rooftop in Elden Ring.

From this point, instead of proceeding over the rooftops, turn left and follow the path at the top of the stairs. Handle the small scorpions in Elden Ring, where the path forks. Take the left fork first and descend via the lift at the path's end.

At the bottom, open the large doors to access a shortcut to the 'Belurat, Tower Settlement' Site of Grace. After using the lift to go back up, prepare to collect another important item from the room where the scorpions emerged. Be cautious, as two giant scorpions will drop from the ceiling upon entry.

Once you've eliminated the scorpions, retrieve the Bone Bow from the corpse at the bottom of the crumbled stairs.

Continue across the rooftops, combating the birds and shade enemies. On the first rooftop, loot x4 Flight Pinions from a corpse, and on the second rooftop, find x3 Smithing Stones [2] in Elden Ring on another corpse.

Where to find the Well Depths Key

Before continuing, take advantage of a hidden room accessible from the first rooftop where you can find the Well Depths Key, crucial for accessing the well you encountered earlier. Near the first rooftop, identify a purple cloth dangling from an archway bridge below.

Drop down to this area and collect x4 Whiteflesh Mushrooms from a corpse overhanging the bridge. The nearby room contains a weak dagger shade and a corpse tucked in the corner by a broken wall holding the Well Depths Key.

Additionally, use the cloth hanging over a wall gap to climb and retrieve x1 Silver Horn Tender. Once you've gathered all your loot, fast-travel back to 'Belurat, Tower Settlement' Site of Grace. From there, head to the previously noted well in the lower town area to continue your exploration.

Explore The Well Depths

Venture to the Well Depths at the western end of the main street where shades congregate around the statue. Descend the ladder, eliminate three dagger shades, and gather x1 Messmerfire Grease from the nearby corpse pile. Then, unlock the door using the Well Depths Key.

Inside, you'll see before you a vast poison pool. Bring Neutralizing Boluses to mitigate poison effects and traverse using dry patches and crumbling buildings for safer footing.

To cross to the other side, jump, and sprint to retrieve x1 Elden Ring from a corpse near the back wall. Navigate back to the main area, use a tree to reach solid ground, and head towards a fallen tower. Ascend to the roof of a sunken house to your right to find x2 Smithing Stone [2].

Crossing the fallen tower pits you against an Ulcerated Tree Spirit mini-boss. Target its weakness with fire-based attacks and consider using spirit summons. Defeating it grants an Immunizing Horn Charm +2.

Proceed to the large bridge, confront the hostile insects beneath, and sprint-jump to a central building in the pool. Handle two insects there and dodge poison-based attacks from another on the roof.

To the north, you'll then encounter the Horned Warrior. Avoid long-distance attacks to prevent his in Elden Ring. Instead, either confront him directly or escape to the eastern ladder. Either way, players must climb it and open the door, which loops back to the Site of Grace 'Belurat, Tower Settlement' via the previously locked entrance.

Defeat The Divine Beast Dancing Lion

How To Beat The Boss

Having explored most of Belurat, Tower Settlement, your next challenge is the dungeon boss, the Divine Beast Dancing Lion in Elden Ring. Start by fast-traveling to the 'Small Private Altar' Site of Grace and head back to the rooftops.

Once across, quickly defeat the shade carrying a pot overhead to secure a Revered Spirit Ash and Golden Horn Tender. You’ll also find a corpse with x3 Black Pyrefly at the end of this path.

Next, confront another Horned Warrior patrolling across the bridge, who may drop Horned Warrior Gauntlets upon defeat.

After crossing the bridge and dealing with a cleaver shade, collect x4 Black Pyrefly from a nearby corpse. Continue forward, managing another group of shades around a tree, where you'll find another x1 Revered Spirit Ash on the statue facing the tree.

Ascend the tower stairs, re-entering the upper section previously plagued by giant scorpions. Beware of a Curseblade here; head right first to collect x3 Warming Stones from a corpse. Defeating the Curseblade might yield the Curseblade's Cirque.

At the top, you’ll reach the final Site of Grace 'Stagefront.' Rest. You can use the summoning rune to call Redmane Freyja for assistance.

The Divine Beast Dancing Lion presents a challenging fight, wielding AoE lightning, frost, and storm attacks. Grohlvana on YouTube demonstrates how to beat this formidable boss and suggests utilizing the Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana for an effective melee approach.

Defeating the boss grants access to the Site of Grace 'Theatre of the Divine Beast,' the Divine Beast Head, and the Remembrance of the Dancing Lion.

After overcoming the battle, take the lift on the eastern side of the boss arena. Open the large doors to find the final Revered Spirit Ash in the settlement, by a statue. Upstairs, you'll discover a 'Tower of Shadow Message' from Needle Knight Leda, hinting at your next steps in the Elden Ring DLC narrative.

Find & Speak To Hornsent Grandam

Player speaking to Hornsent Grandam in Elden Ring.

With the boss vanquished and the settlement pillaged and looted, your final step is to put the Storeroom Key to use. Fast-travel back to the 'Small Private Altar' Site of Grace and unlock the previously overlooked door on the left. Dispatch the two sorcerer shades blocking your way to access the storeroom ahead and to your left.

Inside, you'll encounter the Hordsent Grandam, an old woman lost in her mutterings. Equip the Divine Beast Head before speaking to her to prompt her full dialogue upon interaction. She will ask you to take vengeance on Messmer in Elden Ring, rewarding your efforts with Scorpion Stew and bestowing upon you a new spell, 'Watchful Spirit.'
