multiplayer DLC for Elden Ring has been mooted previously, and given expansions came to Dark Souls and Bloodborne, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that the same would be the case this time - especially given it's the best-selling Souls game of all time. However, until DLC gets officially announced, some of these mysteries remain tantalizingly unsolved.

Released in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a favorite among veteran and new Souls fans. With its massive open world, unforgettable boss fights, and expansive lore, Elden Ring has outdone many games. Similar to previous Souls games, Elden Ring has long questlines, hidden dialogue, and secrets that players may miss during their first several playthroughs of the game, including some of the endings.

For those who want to learn the lore of Elden Ring and all the characters, they will generally spend hours reading the description of every item, studying the game’s architecture, examining every painting, and exploring every inch of the map. However, there are some mysteries that currently have no answer in the game. This could be a deliberate move, and hint at DLC answering them, or it could just be that they've been left deliberately ambiguous. Either way, answers would be welcome, and DLC would be the best way for them to come about.

Elden Ring's Unsolved Mysteries - Colosseums

Elden Ring Colosseum

One mystery revolves around the three colosseums found in Limgrave, Leyndell, and Caelid. Players have found ways to clip through the colosseum doors to see what lies inside, but there is no other way to enter them. The colosseums could be cool structures added to the game. Yet, for a game as detailed as Elden Ring, that seems unlikely. Another answer could be the colosseums are the remains of cut content. However, there is something about these colosseums that make them seem like the groundwork for something bigger.

The colosseum in Limgrave and Caelid share similarities. When the colosseum in Limgrave is approached the Tarnished can be invaded by an Elden Ring NPC named Recusant Henricus. When the NPC is defeated, players get the Hammer Talisman. During the Volcano Manor questline, players can also invade an NPC outside the colosseum. At the entrance is a ghost lamenting that the doors will not open and all they “wanted was to fight.

Outside the Caelid colosseum are The Great-Jar and three summon signs. Players need to summon these three NPCs (all are named Knight of the Great Jar) and beat all three without dying. When the NPCs are defeated, players are given the Great-Jar Arsenal talisman.

There are no invaders at the Lyndell colosseum, but at the doors is the Ritual Shield Talisman and a fist weapon is nearby. The talismans and Elden Ring's weird fist weapon boost players' stats and defense, and, interestingly, these are found around the colosseums. Perhaps this is a coincidence, but in a game like Elden Ring, coincidences are suspicious.

There are no answers for what these colosseums are meant for or why they are in Elden Ring. The only way these colosseums can be explained is with the release of a DLC - something that explains the reason they are there and why the doors are shut. The potential DLC could be entirely PVP-based, with the colosseums being strictly PVP summon or invasion areas. Or the DLC could have a focus on fighting monsters or NPCs in the colosseum, along with PVP quests and summons for PVP players.

Miquella’s Slumber Is A Huge Elden Ring Mystery

Artwork of Miquella in Elden Ring's opening cutscene, identified by his golden hair standing next to Mohg.

Another mystery revolves around Miquella’s slumber. Miquella is an important character in Elden Ring lore. He built the Haligtree to cure his twin sister, Elden Ring boss Malenia, of scarlet rot, but before the tree could fully grow he is stolen by Mohg, Lord of Blood. Mohg believes Miquella can ascend to godhood, and he can be Miquella’s consort. Yet, no matter how much blood Mohg shares with Miquella’s cocooned form, there is no response.

Later, Sir Gideon Ofnir reveals that Miquella is sleeping and residing in his dream. Gideon comments that as long as Miquella continues to sleep in his cocoon “all will be well.” That ominous warning from Gideon brings up the question: what if Miquella wakes up at some point in Elden Ring's story?

Based on the look of Miquella’s arm, which is thin and covered in blood, it is unknown if Miquella’s body could work outside of his egg. All the blood Mohg shared with Miquella could have left his body damaged. If it was impossible for Miquella to wake up, would it be possible to enter his dream? Miquella’s hand is hanging at the height of the player and looks to be set up for future interaction in a potential Elden Ring DLC expansion.

Despite Miquella’s importance to the game’s lore and Gideon’s warning, it is impossible to interact with Miquella or his cocoon. The future of Miquella’s actions in the game is speculation; some players have been able to come up with theories on the future of Miquella based on information hidden in Elden Ring's code. There are references to cut content and mentions of dreams. Only a DLC can solve this mystery.

Who Is Elden Ring's Unnamed God Of Dragons?

Elden Ring Player Facing Dragon

Before the Age of the Erdtree and Elden Ring's Queen Marika, the Lands Between was ruled by dragons. These dragons followed a god, but who that god is, remains unknown. It is known that this god fled, leaving behind Placidusax who served as that god’s Elden Lord. Placideusax continues to wait for the return of his god.

The mystery is who is this god, and where did they go? Perhaps the god is Elder Dragon Greyoll, who can be found in Caelid. She is a massive dragon, the largest in the game, and described as the “mother of all dragons.” Greyoll’s description is similar to Marika, who is a mother to many of the demi-gods the players must face in the game. However, Greyoll’s inability to move makes it doubtful she was a god. Killing Caelid's big white dragon in Elden Ring gives a decent chunk of runes and unlocks her roar at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. If Greyoll is not the dragon god, however, perhaps she has connections to them and knows where they are. Based on her size, she may be old enough to have lived when the dragons ruled. Sadly, the only way players can interact with her is by killing her.

The name and history of the god of dragons are a mystery in Elden Ring. The information available to players is limited and can only lead to speculation. Even the timeline of the dragons and ancient dragons is a bit confusing. However, a DLC around the dragon god and the dragons could give players solid answers.
