A funny brought Marvel's Scarlet Witch to Elden Ring.
Another area that has been a center of fan communication is Elden Ring's in-game messaging system, which allows players to leave behind short, often cryptic, notes for other players. These can be - and often are - very helpful, pointing out key game locations, secret objects, and nascent ambushes from lurking attackers. However, as long-time FromSoftware fans have come to expect, the messaging system has also been used as an industrial-grade meme generator, serving as a platform for hilarious messages and long-running inside jokes. This has spawned a sort of meta-conversation within the game, with players referencing Metal Gear Solid at every in-game ladder and absurdly referring to turtles and other animals and dogs. Players will also often connect popular franchises like The Lord of the Rings to Elden Ring through this messaging tool.
Now, there appears to be another Elden Ring player message that references another popular fantasy IP: Star Wars. As pointed out by Reddit gold_77, a lava-ridden area of Elden Ring contains a message that reads "behold, high spot! therefore [sic] give up!" This note is a clear reference to Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, which features the climactic battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin on the fiery planet of Mustafar. The battle is filled with iconic quotes, but perhaps the most commonly cited one comes from Obi-Wan himself: "It's over, Anakin! I have the high ground!" Due to the clear parallels of the message and quote, plus the location in-game, gold_77 made the connection and thanked the messenger for the reminder about the new Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney Plus show.
The history of Star Wars may rival Elden Ring's expansive lore in of scope and depth, but the two IPs ultimately have very little in common, barring their huge fanbases. It would seem that this difference extends to the game's many players, as lots of the comments on gold_77's post are disparaging Star Wars, and even gold_77's caption itself may be read as sarcastic.
Opinions on the Star Wars franchise aside, the Elden Ring message is one that many will likely find amusing, and as the Redditor points out, it does serve as a good reminder for Tarnished who may have forgotten the Obi-Wan Kenobi show launched today, May 27. FromSoftware's latest outing has proven to be chock-full of meme potential, so mashing it up with one of the most meme-filled scenes in modern cinema seems fitting. Who knows, perhaps even more Star Wars prequel references will show up in Elden Ring in the future.
