Elden Ring's Flask of Wondrous Physick is an extraordinarily useful item, and while its best combinations will vary from character to character, some of the most powerful can do a lot to turn the tide of battle. Some combinations will work better for either melee-focused or magic-using characters, and some are more general purpose, including just offering a chance for healing and escape. Elden Ring's Flask of Wondrous Physick has a little something for everyone.

Elden Ring is a difficult game, and players will likely want to use every tool at their disposal against difficult bosses. The game's open world hides many tools and useful items beyond just bigger swords and stronger spells (though those certainly aren't in short supply), and the Flask of Wondrous Physick is just one of these many items, albeit one that requires a little more thought to put to the best use: The Flask takes two Cracked or Crystal Tears and combines their effects to create a single-use potion a player can use at any time, which resets after resting at a Site of Lost Grace. This is different from the upgradeable Crimson and Cerulean Elden Ring flasks players get from the started of the game, however.

There are well over 350 potential Flask of Wondrous Physick combinations available given the number of Tears on offer in Elden Ring, so choosing the best ones can be a matter of some consideration. They can also be rearranged any time players reset at a Lost Grace point, which means situational combinations can be used for different areas, world encounters, or boss fights, making the Flask one of Elden Ring's most versatile tools.

For players who tend toward melee builds like the Hero class, the Strength-knot Crystal Tear and the Dexterity-knot Crystal Tear offer the most basic scaling for dishing out more damage, more quickly, depending on whether the character's main weapons are focused on strength or dexterity. These can easily be combined with the Leaden Hardtear, used to boost poise (which prevents being stunned or having attacks interrupted), and the Greenspill or Greenburst Crystal Tear, which will boost max stamina and stamina recovery. These can provide a basic edge in battle by simply powering up the main stats.

Possibly the most powerful melee combination, however, is the Stonebarb Cracked Tear and the Spiked Cracked Tear. These boost a character's ability to break enemy stances and the character's charged attacks. Combined, these can make tougher enemies and bosses easier to stun, and if working in concert with co-op partners or Elden Ring Spirit Summons, this can deplete their Super Armor quickly and lead to critical hit chances much more often. Alternate combinations might substitute one or the other for the Thorny Cracked Tear or any other strength- or melee-enhancing Tears.

Those looking to dish out more magical damage in Elden Ring will consider using the Faith-knot or Intelligence-knot Crystal Tear for a straight-up attribute bonus to their primary magic stat, or a Cerulean Crystal Tear to augment FP recovery flasks. However, a larger bonus is given to Intelligence-oriented mages with the Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear, which will affect both sorceries and magic damage on a weapon (making it the more ideal choice). For the maximum Glintstone damage, taking that in conjunction with the Intelligence-knot Crystal Tear can make for an extremely potent window of opportunity for Elden Ring's magical systems. The Holy-Shrouding and Faith-knot Tear can also be a potent combination for some Incantation-focused spellcasters.

There are several combinations that will work for just about anyone looking for a little more survivability in Elden Ring. The Speckled Hardtear combined with the Crimson Crystal Tear can make for a powerful one-off heal that will restore both 50% of a character's HP but also remove all status effects while boosting status resistances - something that can be handy for basically anyone.

The Cerulean Hidden Tear is spectacularly powerful, eliminating all FP use, and in combination with the Leaden Hardtear can make for a character that can dish out repeated deadly Ashes of War abilities or spells without being interrupted. This does, of course, make a character quite vulnerable, a potential problem for any Elden Ring glass cannon builds, but depending on the offensive techniques being employed, the opposing forces may simply be unable to react under the oncoming fury. Characters with higher natural defense will benefit more at close ranges, while those who plan to keep their distance might trade the Leaden Hardtear for a damage booster.

Elden Ring can also essentially be outfitted with a panic button by taking the Flask of Wondrous Physick and combining the Crimson Bubbletear with the Twiggy Cracked Tear. This will allow players to create a heal that will protect them if they near death, but also protect their runes in the case of actual death. It's essentially the ultimate bet-hedger for risky situations or gambits. It also leads into its counterpart, which takes the Rune-protecting nature of the Twiggy Cracked Tear and combines it with the explosive power of the Ruptured Crystal Tear, turning the player into a timebomb that will explode (usually killing the player) but while keeping all runes and taking them safely back to a Site of Lost Grace.

Elden Ring can punish Prisoner builds and Hero builds alike where its demanding combat is concerned, but it has many weapons and tools for its players to use against their adversaries. These are often fairly straightforward, such as having a powerful sword or strong shield, but the Flask of Wondrous Physick allows players to get truly creative when considering what their needs are for any given situation. In the case of the Ruptured Crystal Tear, the results can be some of Elden Ring's most entertaining. The options here listed can't be considered exhaustive, given the many permutations of both Crystal Tear combinations and character builds, but serve as powerful and reliable allies in fighting the good fight. Whether Elden Ring will get any future DLC - and with it, it can only be hoped, an increase in the available Flask of Wondrous Physick options - remains to be seen, but there remains plenty of experimentation to be had until then.
