Despite the fact Elden Ring's success making a sequel inevitable, turning the hit adventure game into a franchise could be FromSoftware's best move.
A speedy follow-up to Elden Ring is unlikely for a host of reasons, but also has fans wondering the longer Bandai Namco withholds any news about DLCs for the game. Only an unverified leak from a hacker group who targeted the game publisher revealed information about a project known as Barbarians of the Badlands, which is believed to be a DLC based outside of Elden Ring's Lands Between. But with zero confirmation about future content, it's natural for some to wonder whether FromSoftware's plan was to always release Elden Ring and its sequel closely together.
However, FromSoftware's next game being Elden Ring 2 is highly unlikely, despite what Miyazaki's statements to 4Gamer. Elden Ring is such a giant and revolutionary title; to immediately follow it up with a game that is expected to expand upon it would be nigh impossible. Though such a view may be disheartening for fans who are hungry for more storylines about their favorite demigods, the game most likely to be FromSoftware's next could be equally as exciting as the prospect of an Elden Ring 2.
It's Time For FromSoftware To Make Sekiro 2
Three years have ed since the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and it's time for it to receive a sequel. Like Elden Ring, Sekiro shook up the Soulsborne games by introducing a more linear storyline and a concrete lead character rather than a player avatar. With Sekiro's critical praise and Elden Ring's reaffirmation that fans are hungry for ambitious FromSoftware games, a Sekiro sequel is certainly due. Recent developments in Activision-Blizzard's marketing even suggest that this could happen. Win.gg found that Activision-Blizzard - who distributed Sekiro outside of Japan - has begun to sponsor content creators making videos about Sekiro. That the game developer is investing in building buzz about Sekiro again suggests that a sequel is likely the mysterious FromSoftware title in its final stages of completion.
Though Sekiro 2 may not be the sequel Elden Ring fans are waiting for, the continuation of FromSoftware's hot streak is nevertheless exciting. Miyazaki has released successive titles that show his development as a revolutionary game director with a distinct design philosophy. Giving him and FromSoftware the space to further explore their individual series and what each has to offer will only ensure an Elden Ring 2 that grows upon its predecessor.
