While Dying Light had some great parkour features and focused on having players gaining the high ground to escape hairy situations with zombies (or gain an advantage over human enemies), the city of Harran did not offer as much extensive verticality compared to the scale of Dying Light 2.  Techland is looking to change how the game is played, and these new features will play a huge role.

In Dying Light, many of the buildings were only one or two stories tall in the Slums portion of the map, and many within Old Town were only a few stories taller. Old Town played quite differently in of verticality, with many players likely running along the rooftops high above the zombies below, rather than only being a few feet above them in the Slums. Dying Light 2 is looking to expand verticality with massive skyscrapers, apartment complexes, and various other tall buildings, with many of them connected by Ziplines. Dying Light 2 has a new Nightrunner difficulty as well that makes the game harder for those with more experience using Dying Light's parkour system.

These buildings can be scaled using the new mechanics of Dying Light 2 like walling running, jumping between walls, and boost jumping off walls to gain more height. Verticality is the name of the game, and players will need to utilize it to explore the city and gain advantages in fights. Alongside the new parkour techniques, players will also be given some new gadgets to help them explore.

How Dying Light 2's Paraglider & Grappling Hook Can Be Utilized

Dying Light 2 Has Twice As Many Parkour Moves

One new gadget is the Paraglider. Some form of gliding, has almost become a must-have in many adventure games that contain verticality, such as Breath of The Wild, Genshin Impact, and the Batman: Arkham games. In Dying Light 2, players can likely use this Paraglider to soar between some of the more distanced buildings, or even use it to glide down near a group of enemies before launching an attack from above. This will make transportation much quicker around Dying Light 2’s massive new map.

The Grappling Hook will also be returning, but this time it will be rather different than it was in Dying Light, where it would generally ignore physics and zip the player toward whatever object they aimed at. In Dying Light 2, the Grappling Hook will act more like the Grappling Hook in Ghost of Tsushima, where players will swing and use their momentum to jump from buildings or cranes - at least before players acquire some upgrades.

In an interview with choose between Dying Light 2's various factions, their available upgrades may differ. This could also suggest that the Zipline-esque Grappling Hook from Dying Light could return as an upgrade for some players, allowing for further increased mobility. There could also be some unique upgrades that enhance the Paraglider as well.

Dying Light 2 is shaping up the be a unique experience with its addition of multiple branching storylines, new parkour moves, and new traversal techniques to get around the city. There are numerous new weapons to craft, new human enemies, and zombie types to encounter as players progress through the game solo, or with friends using Dying Light 2’s Co-Op mode.
