Dying Light 2 is an open-world action game where a zombie apocalypse has destroyed much of civilization. While the game is set to release on December 7th on all major gaming platforms, fans of the series can pick up Dynamite Entertainment’s new prequel comic Banshee – I Am The Cure from TechlandGG for free until July 15th, exploring the crucial gap of time between Dying Light and Dying Light 2.
In Dying Light, players take on the role of Kyle Crane, a Global Relief Effort operative tasked with entering the zombie plagued city of Harran to infiltrate the quarantine zone, assess the situation, and recover sensitive materials. At the end of the game, Crane finds research data point to a possible cure for the zombie plague and entrusts it to a doctor he met in Harran to develop it further. Despite this seeming victory, in Dying Light 2, 20 years have ed, and humanity has lost the war against the undead all over the world, while previously only Harran and the neighboring regions were afflicted by the pathogen.
Banshee – I Am The Cure is written by Dying Light 2 lead writer Mariusz Pitura with art by Adam Markiewicz. It covers the critical moment where the Harran Virus from Dying Light got out of control and ravaged the world. The comic takes place in an unknown city as the army attempts to research a cure for the Harran Virus. As the scientists researching the virus race against the clock, disaster strikes, and the stage is set for human civilization to fall and create the world fans will see in Dying Light 2.
Adam Markiewicz’s art perfectly captures the magical realism Dying Light utilized when presenting fluid combat and parkour systems. Mariusz Pitura’s story sheds light on what was humanity’s downfall and follows interesting characters as they navigate the rapidly changing world of Dying Light as it all falls apart. Tantalizing callbacks to Dying Light and its expansion The Following allow fans to connect the dots and see how humanity’s efforts to combat the undead have developed over Dying Light’s transmedia narrative.
While Dying Light 2 may not be available to play until December 7th, fans can get a head start and learn more about the game’s world through Dynamite Entertainment’s Banshee – I am The Cure. A 20-year gap between games is a huge chunk of time to fill, and this new comic gives readers a front-row seat to humanity’s failure to rage against the dying of the light.
