It is nice to encourage audiences and theatergoers to feel empowered and express themselves during movies; for example, laughter has been a mainstay in movie theaters for years. However, people singing during the movie can be a source of annoyance for other viewers and ruin the movie experience, especially for those viewing it for the first time. Furthermore, it can be viewed as disrespectful to the cast and crew who have put in the time and effort to create the movie to be watched and experienced in a particular way.

One of the reasons that might be contributing to audience singing along during Wicked is that the movie is an adaptation of the Broadway show, where audiences are more likely to sing along than they would be in theaters. While many would argue that it is important for viewers to enjoy movies the way they want to, considering other moviegoers is also important, so singing aloud has a chance of encroaching on other's theater experience.

One of the reasons behind Johnson's comments could be that he comes from the entertainment background of the WWE, which involves a lot of live interaction with audiences, including songs and chants, which play a big role in the spectacle and performance. Many stars might object to audiences singing during movies, but Johnson seems to have a more laissez-faire attitude to the situation, which does fit with his carefree personality. The star will no doubt be hoping viewers sing along in theaters for the live-action Moana adaptation, due for release next year.
