If we never see the iconic powerful Drizzt Do'Urden soon grew into a great character in his own right, spawning dozens of books, and appearing in video games and comics.
For years, D&D fans have hoped to see Drizzt in a live-action project of some sort. It might have been a disaster a years ago, but now, geek culture reigns supreme and the CGI and makeup is there to create a great-looking, high-quality Drizzt Do'Urden story on screen, whether as a movie or as a TV show (though I think a Legend of Drizzt TV show would arguably be the better way to go). But Hollywood is dragging its feet, and right now, I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever see Drizzt in action, and bummed to find the answer is "probably not."

How To Read All 39 Drizzt Do'Urden Books In Order (It's Complicated)
Written by R.A. Salvatore, The Legend of Drizzt is composed of 39 books. Here's a guide to the complicated reading order of Drizzt Do'Urden's stories.
I'm Losing Hope Of Ever Seeing Drizzt Do'Urden In A Live-Action D&D Show Or Movie
At this point, I'm not sure we'll ever see Drizzt Do'Urden in a live-action movie or TV show, and I'm starting to lose hope it will happen. Dungeons & Dragons has been having itself a moment for the past few years. The tabletop board game experienced a resurgence of popularity in the past decade, with a whole new audience loving it. That led to an explosion of live tabletop shows, especially the wildly popular Critical Role. Critical Role led to the animated series The Legend of Vox Machina, and last year we got the hugely underrated Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in theaters.
The time has been ripe for a Legend of Drizzt TV show or movie and yet, there's been no movement on anything aside from rumors. The more time that es, the more unlikely it appears that we'll get a project featuring Drizzt. What's especially troubling is the news that Paramount has canceled its planned Dungeons & Dragons TV show. That show was rumored to potentially be about Drizzt Do'Urden. On top of that, it appears that a Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves sequel is never going to happen, despite the movie being quite successful on streaming and getting great word-of-mouth post-release. The window seems to be closing for a Drizzt live-action project, and it's really disappointing.
Dungeons & Dragons Not Adapting Drizzt Do'Urden Is Completely Devastating
It's A Huge Missed Opportunity
If a Drizzt Do'Urden movie or TV show doesn't happen, it will be really devastating for anyone who loves D&D or who has read Drizzt's books. It's also a loss for those who aren't even familiar with him, but who love fantasy or who are starting to grow familiar with Dungeons & Dragons through other avenues, whether playing themselves or Vox Machina. I'd personally love for the uninitiated to get their first introduction to Drizzt in a live-action movie or TV show, because he's one of the coolest characters in the vast D&D pantheon, and beloved for a reason.
For starters, as a drow, he would be the way into a section of the Dungeons & Dragons universe that's not been explored much with the Underdark. We've gotten elves in fiction to the point it's gotten boring, but dark elves are another matter entirely. The drow of D&D, unlike the reserved, wise and sometimes arrogant beings of IP like Lord of the Rings, are a malicious, backstabbing lot. That Drizzt chose to reject the cruel principles of his race and strike out on his own is what makes him so remarkable, as well as his desire to help others rather than take advantage of them. He's a really fascinating character with a great, long story, and it's genuinely disheartening to realize we'll probably never see him on screen.
Why Drizzt Do'Urden Wasn't In Honor Among Thieves
Character Rights Were An Issue
What's an extra kick in the teeth is that Drizzt was in the earliest versions of the Honor Among Thieves script. Producer Jeremy Latcham revealed last year that Drizzt was originally a character in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and a major one at that. Initially, he was meant to be the character who led the others through the Underdark so they could retrieve the Helm of Disjunction. Unfortunately, they couldn't acquire the character rights, so Drizzt was eventually written out and replaced with Regé-Jean Page's paladin character, Xenk. It was a real missed opportunity to introduce Drizzt to a live-action Dungeons & Dragons adaptation, and now, it's starting to seem like he never will be.
