Never. I when Jim [Carrey] wanted me to do it. I was at the Chateau Marmont, rehearsing with Mike Figgis, getting ready for Leaving Las Vegas, which was a conflict with Dumb and Dumber. I'm glad they made their movie and I'm happy for them, but I think I made the right choice.

What Would The Comedy Have Looked Like?
Dumb and Dumber became a beloved buddy comedy movie, and Carrey and Daniels eventually returned for the 2014 sequel Dumb and Dumber To. Cage has proven that he excels at humorous acting, along with many other genres, but it's hard to imagine the role of Harry changing. Although he likely would have gone all out and made for a memorable, and funny, character, it may have been a very different portrayal, and considering Nicolas Cage won the Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas and continues to have a celebrated career, it does seem like his decision paid off.
