When thinking about Dragon Ball, most fans will the iconic villains that have been introduced to this beloved franchise. Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu, and the numerous adversaries that Goku and his friends fought against left a lasting mark on viewers that will never be erased. However, among these, the Galactic Emperor is arguably the most popular for his iconic rivalry against the Saiyans.
Although Frieza has always been known for his hatred of Goku and Vegeta, recent events might suggest that he has moved on from his quest for revenge. The tyrant has shown signs of having changed his objectives from Goku and Vegeta to the strongest Saiyan in history: the legendary Broly.
Frieza Might Want To Defeat Broly Soon
His Humiliation Cannot Be Forgiven
The Dragon Ball Super: Broly film, one of the best movies in the franchise, shocked fans by making the titular character canon for the first time in history. While this adventure mostly focused on the battle between Goku, Vegeta, and the Legendary Super Saiyan, Frieza was also a major part of the plot. As such, despite not being Broly’s main objective, the villain was also forced to fight him, seeing as the rampaging warrior attacked anyone in front of him. This was by far one of Frieza’s most humiliating defeats, as he was unable to even harm his opponent.
This event seems to have deeply scared the tyrant, as it seems to be the catalyst for the training he underwent during the Granolah the Survivor arc. In chapter #87 of the Dragon Ball Super manga, Frieza managed to defeat Goku and Vegeta in a single attack thanks to his newly unlocked Black form. The villain unlocked this technique after spending 10 years inside a Hyperbolic Time Chamber, becoming one of the strongest characters in the franchise. Yet, despite his new strength, Frieza did not try to kill Goku and Vegeta, instead mocking them for being weaker.

Wait, Did Bardock Unlock Super Saiyan Long Before Goku? The Answer Is More Complicated Than You Think
A forgotten Dragon Ball special might have made Bardock the first Super Saiyan, not Goku, but it's surprisingly more complicated than people think.
Up until that point in the story, the Galactic Emperor would have never missed an opportunity to eliminate his bitter enemies. The fact that Frieza allowed the Saiyans to live might imply that he no longer sees them as the biggest threat to his reign. This sudden shift in goals might stem from his previous fight against Broly, during which he was powerless to do anything. Frieza no longer considers defeating Goku and Vegeta the pinnacle of power, as the Legendary Super Saiyan has proven to be much more powerful than either of them.
Frieza’s Actions Suggest This Might Be the Case
The Villain’s Training Did Not Start Until Broly Defeated Him
During the Resurrection F movie, Frieza revealed to the world that he had never trained a day in his life. Due to his race’s natural strength and superior fighting abilities, the emperor considered working to increase his power to be beneath him. It was not until Goku and Vegeta defeated him several times that he decided to train for the first time, unlocking his Golden Form. The villain would not train again, not even after being revived when Universe 7 won the Tournament of Power arc, one of the best in the series.
It is possible that Frieza noticed that his level and Goku’s were not that far apart during the competition, since the Saiyan struggled just as much as him to defeat Jiren and his Pride Troopers. As such, the emperor decided not to train anymore, as proven by his strength during the Broly movie. It was not until Broly defeated him that Frieza realized that his power was not enough to survive another encounter against the Legendary Super Saiyan. If the villain had wanted to increase his power before, he would have continued training even before Broly arrived on Earth.
Frieza Black Will Force the Saiyans To Work Together
The Manga Has Hinted at the Heroes Working Together To Defeat This Villain
While rumors about its return continue to spread, the Dragon Ball Super manga has been teasing fans about the beginning of the Black Frieza Saga. From amazing illustrations of the villain to comments about its possible return during the coming months, the series has promised readers that this battle will be one to . One of the most significant hints was a special artwork depicting the most powerful Saiyan warriors, and Piccolo, standing together as they prepare to fight an enemy.
The power exhibited by the Galactic Emperor during chapter #87 of the manga was far superior to any other villain in the franchise. Not even those who wished to become the strongest in Universe 7, like Granolah and Gas, were able to challenge Frieza’s strength. Whether the tyrant has selected Broly as his new objective or not, there is no denying that the galaxy will need every hero if they hope to defeat the franchise’s best villain once and for all.
