Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episodes #17-#18.The main villain of Dragon Ball Daima is Gomah, the king of the Demon Realm following Dabura’s death. While Gomah spent most of Daima in the background, he finally took center stage in the climax when he obtained the Third Eye, a mystical artifact used by Demon Kings to boost their powers to an incredible degree, finally giving him the means of taking on Goku and his friends, himself.
Gomah finally getting to fight everyone has been great to see, and surprisingly, it says more about Dabura than it does about Gomah. After all the build-up to Gomah getting the Third Eye, it makes sense that he would be powerful, but with just how powerful he became, Gomah’s use of the Third Eye in Dragon Ball Daima shows just how differently Dragon Ball Z could have gone if Dabura was a little smarter. There’s no telling how a story like that would have gone, but regardless, it’s plenty exciting to think about.
Dragon Ball Daima Reveals Dabura Could Have Easily Beaten Goku & Majin Buu
Dabura Had The Chance To Be One Of Dragon Ball's Strongest Villains
With the power of the Third Eye, Gomah is strong enough to fight Goku, Vegeta, Tamagami Number One, and Majins Kuu and Duu singlehandedly, and even when Goku transforms into Super Saiyan 3 and, later, Super Saiyan 4, he’s still largely untouchable. That’s incredibly impressive on its own, and with the explicit knowledge that all of these characters are at least on par with Majin Buu, that means that Gomah overpowering Goku and his friends singlehandedly makes him one of Dragon Ball’s strongest characters while using the Third Eye.
Above all else, Gomah’s use of the Third Eye says a lot about what was possible for Dabura. Gomah is supposed to be far weaker than Dabura, yet he’s strong enough that a team of fighters stronger than Dabura can barely touch him while using the Third Eye. That means that had Dabura stolen the Third Eye himself instead of leaving it to his henchman, he would have massively eclipsed Goku and even Majin Buu in power in Dragon Ball Z, and that highlights just how lucky the Z-Warriors were during the Majin Buu saga in hindsight.
Dragon Ball Daima Highlights How Wasted Dabura’s Character Was
Dabura Is One Of Dragon Ball's Most Wasted Characters, By Far
If there’s anything to take away from everything with the Third Eye, it’s how wasted a character Dabura was. Dabura was one of the biggest wasted potentials of the Majin Buu saga, and even with Daima being the proper introduction to the Demon Realm, Dabura’s character and backstory have barely been explored. Now, Daima takes things even further by showing that Dabura could have been one of the strongest villains in the franchise if he was slightly more proactive, so if anything, one of Dragon Ball Daima’s biggest accomplishments is further showcasing how poorly handled Dabura has been for decades.
What makes that worse is how that’s only the case for the anime and manga. Dragon Ball Xenoverse and other video games have told stories about the Demon Realm, many of which involved Dabura, and while those stories are now non-canon thanks to Dragon Ball Daima, Dragon Ball’s extended media shows that there was plenty of room to make Dabura a bigger character that canon simply refused to capitalize on. There’s, unfortunately, no time to fix that with how close Dragon Ball Daima is to ending, and with how much potential Dabura had, that’s nothing but disappointing to think about.
