Warning! Spoilers ahead for Amazing Spider-Man #80.BEY

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' his legacy as the Superior Spider-Man. While Doc Ock has certainly had a wild few years in the pages of Marvel Comics, one of his crowning achievements was swapping his consciousness with Peter Parker's, allowing Otto to take over Peter's body to become his own version of Spider-Man he believed would be "superior." He also used Peter Parker's name to create his own company that has since been dissolved, motivating Doc Ock to seek revenge against those who have absorbed what little remained.

During his time in Peter Parker/Spider-Man's body, Octavius started Parker Industries, which would soon become a leading tech company right behind Iron Man's. However, Peter would eventually regain control of his body, which saw him likewise inheriting the company Octavius had built in his name. While Doc Ock's career as Superior Spider-Man continued for some time after thanks to clones Otto had created, his attempts to reclaim Parker Industries resulted in Spider-Man intentionally tanking the entire company to keep it out of Doc Ock's hands.

Now, Doctor Octopus has since returned to his classic body and name, deciding to go to war against the new Spider-Man Ben Reilly and his corporate bosses at the Beyond Corporation in Amazing Spider-Man #80.BEY from writer Cody Ziglar and artists Ivan Fiorelli, Carlos Gómez, and Paco Medina. Seeing as how Beyond purchased Parker Industries' remaining assets after it went under, Octavius apparently sees this as an act of plagiarism. Furthermore, Doc Ock was the one responsible for trademarking the Spider-Man name and likeness, which Beyond also now possesses, hence their hiring of Ben Reilly to be their official corporate Spider-Man. As a result, it looks as though a reckoning will soon be at hand between Doc Ock and the Beyond Corporation.

Interestingly enough, the reason Doctor Octopus is back in his original body is due to a dark deal he made with the demon lord Mephisto. Octavius' memories were also tampered with so he no longer re that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, despite his ability to somehow still his time as the Superior Spider-Man and building Parker Industries. As a result, the legacy Octavius left behind is still of grave importance to his ego, and it makes sense that Otto would want to confront the new Spider-Man and Beyond in response.

Doctor Octopus has always been a man of genius and immense pride. It's no wonder he'd see a new Spider-Man and company taking what he built as an offense to his legacy. That being said, while future issues will see Otto confronting Ben Reilly's Spider-Man and his corporate masters at Beyond, it's doubtful the outcome will be in Doctor Octopus' favor given the sheer complexity and confusion of his own past in the Marvel Universe.
