Carrying all the gold and loot that usually comes from dungeons in Dungeons & Dragons can be a puzzle in and of itself. Making money is always a plus, but transporting 10,000 gold pieces for miles can put a strain on even the toughest of heroes. Thankfully, Dungeons & Dragons provides a wealth of options to suit every transport need. Whether arcane or manual, horsepower or dynamo power, the possibilities for efficient loot transportation are near endless.

In order to accurately judge how to move loot from the dungeon to the marketplace in Dungeons & Dragons, there are several factors that must be taken into consideration. Gold is only one form of treasure that can be found in a dungeon. Priceless artwork, statues, and even small sections of the dungeon itself could potentially be sold for a profit. This can help stop gold system abuse in Dungeons & Dragons. The method used for transporting a hoard of gold pieces may not necessarily work for transporting a 10-foot idol.

Any Dungeons & Dragons technique used to transport any gold gained from a dungeon should vary with the spoils themselves. Magical means can often only a certain weight, so they will only be good up to that limit. Other means of transportation may incur their own transportation issues, as any vehicles used likely won't be able to fit through narrow dungeon corridors. Great care must be taken when choosing the right method of loot transport.

D&D's Build Ability Gives Gains In Muscle & Gold

Card Art for the Triumphant Adventurer Magic: The Gathering Card

In Dungeons & Dragons Bugbears, Centaurs, Firbolg, Goliaths, Loxodons, and Orcs all have a variation on the Powerful Build racial trait, which allows them to count as one size larger when determining their carrying capacity. This means that their carrying capacity is double what it normally is for a creature of their size, meaning that they can carry both their D&D starting gold to spend as well as any looted treasure. Having a barbarian or fighter of these races with the maximum strength score means that they can haul a staggering 600 pounds of equipment total.

Tenser's Floating Disk Provides A Classic Dungeons & Dragons Solution

D&D Gold Coin Abuse And How To Stop It

With a history spanning back to the earliest Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, Tenser's Floating Disk is an early solution to carrying capacity woes. Able to hold up to 500 pounds of weight before dissipating, the disk magically hovers above the ground and follows the caster at a distance of 20 feet. It can traverse uneven ground and up to 10-foot deep pits with ease, and depending on the flair of the wizard who cast it, look stylish while doing it. Gold, Statues, and art pieces will be safe above the ground on the way back to town so long as the wizard has enough spell slots to recast it every hour. This helps to keep it level and make sure it isn't a D&D spell that can break the game.

A Bag Of Holding Provides A Convenient (& Portable) Gold Storage In Dungeons & Dragons

Bag of Holding from DnD

The Bag of Holding is an artifact with possibly the most self-explanatory name there is. Its insides are a portal to a sealed demiplane with infinite space and a carrying capacity of up to 500 pounds. To retrieve something from the bag, the simply has to reach in while thinking about what they want to pull out, and it is magically shunted into their hand. 500 pounds can carry up to 25,000 gold pieces, or (if the DM is generous) 25,000 platinum pieces worth a staggering quarter of a million gold. For that amount, a party of five could each buy two personal airships (at Dungeon Master's Guide prices) and still have money left over. Or maybe they could pool their money for one of Dungeons & Dragons' new Spelljammer ships. Either way, the Bag of Holding is one of D&D's most classic and beloved means of transporting goods, making it a reliable method for any Dungeons & Dragons party lucky enough to get their hands on one.
