Disney's own trading card game (TCG), Disney Lorcana, keeps building momentum through its impressive sets. These expansion sets are released roughly every three months, with a total of four sets being added to the game each year. Each one continues to slowly reveal more of the detailed story behind the game as players take on the role of Illuminary and uncover the mysteries of the world of Lorcana, while adding glimmers of characters from Disney properties to the card game. Often, these sets also include new gameplay mechanics to keep players on their toes and freshen the game experience.
Recently, Ravensburger announced a plethora of changes and content that is coming to Disney Lorcana in the next few months. Most of the announcements focused on reveals for Reign of Jafar, which will be released next month, and the following set, Fabled, which signals the start of Disney Lorcana's third year. However, amidst all this news, there was also the reveal of the tenth set, which will be available to players near the end of 2025 and will be called Whispers in the Well. Though little has been shown yet, enough has been given to start building anticipation.
Disney Lorcana's Tenth Set Will Be Whispers In The Well
The Black Cauldron and Gargoyles ing The Illumineers
Whispers in the Well was revealed along with key artwork showing Mickey and Ariel investigating in a dark area, presumably around the mysterious well, as swirls of glowing paper circle around them. In the colorful image, the shadowed image of a gargoyle can be seen in the background. Knowing that the image would spark supposition from eagle-eyed fans, it has been confirmed that Gargoyles is coming to Disney Lorcana with this set, although specific characters have not been identified at this time.
In addition to Gargoyles, it has also been confirmed that Whispers in the Well will introduce characters from The Black Cauldron to Disney Lorcana. Both of these Disney franchises have long been requested by fans. Similarly, Darkwing Duck and A Goofy Movie were each revealed to be finally making their debuts in the game through other sets, although Darkwing Duck will, sadly, not arrive until sometime in 2026.
What Are Ethereal Glimmers, And How Do They Change The Story Of Disney Lorcana
A New And Mysterious Type Of Glimmer
For many players, Disney Lorcana is just a card game with fun game mechanics and cards featuring the infamous and beloved characters from the vast library of Disney properties. However, there is actually a very involved and deep storyline that grows richer and more engaging with every set that is released. The player takes on the role of an Illumineer who, armed with an Inkcaster wand, is tasked with helping the Great Illuminary to gather the lost Lore of Lorcana. Using the Inkcaster wand, players can summon glimmers of characters such as Mickey Mouse, Stitch, and more.
This concept of the glimmer is how the game explains having multiple versions of the same character in play at the same time, as they represent an alternate version of a character, summoned to aid the Illumineer in their task. These glimmer characters can quest to gather lore or battle opposing glimmers from other players.

Disney Lorcana's New Epic And Iconic Rarities Explained
Disney Lorcana will soon add two new rarity types, Epic and Iconic, further expanding the TCG's collectibility and adding more beautiful artwork.
In Whispers in the Well, an all-new type of glimmer is revealed, called an ethereal glimmer. As Ravensbuger teased, these ethereal glimmers seem to have just appeared and nobody knows where they came from or what their purpose is. The mystery that Whispers in the Well looks to unravel is what this means for the future of the land of Lorcana. If these ethereal glimmers are coming from deep within the mysterious well, they could be either of evil origin or helpful. It appears in the key artwork revealed for the set that Mickey and others are investigating for clues to this puzzle.
Whatever the motives behind these ethereal glimmers are, and if someone is behind their creation, the addition of new glimmers is sure to add a new form of gameplay through cards representing them. More information for Whispers in the Well will be coming over the next few months, particularly after Fabled is released in September for Disney Lorcana.
