Sticking to the standard Disney Lorcana approach, Shimmering Skies will be released first in local game stores, physical Disney Stores, and Disney Park retailers on August 9, 2024. A wider release will follow two weeks later on August 23, bringing the set to mass market retailers and DisneyStore.com. An exclusive foil Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies card coming to Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil will be available slightly earlier on August 1, 2024, releasing in select major retailers along with local game stores.

Although the early days of Disney Lorcana were plagued by stock issues, recent expansions have been more stable, so it shouldn't be difficult to pick up Shimmering Skies. If something specific like a portfolio or playmat has a lot of appeal, however, it might still be best to pay careful attention to the release dates.

Everything That Will Be On Store Shelves In August

Aside from the foil card included with new copies of Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil, the format of the Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies product lineup sticks to the general formula established so far. Starter Decks make for the best way to introduce players to the game or expansion, while boosters help to fill out a collection and offer a chance at pulling some rare cards. Products like sleeves, boxes, and playmats offer useful themed accessories for play and storage.

The Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies Starter Decks offer Amethyst/Ruby and Emerald/Steel pairings. Elsa and Wreck-It Ralph serve as the mascot characters for the Amethyst/Ruby deck, and Scar and Kronk grace the Emerald/Steel option. Amethyst/Ruby can be useful for control decks focused on maintaining sway over the board, while a good Emerald/Steel build tends to angle for weakening an opponent by depleting their resources through discard abilities.

Booster packs for Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies include a mostly random assortment of cards, with rarity determining some elements of distribution. Each pack includes the following arrangement of twelve cards:

• 6 common cards
• 3 uncommon cards
• 2 rare, super rare, or legendary cards
• 1 foil card of any rarity

Depending on availability, booster packs can be purchased in larger booster boxes for particularly dedicated players. The Illumineer's Trove can also provide a great way to stock up, offering eight packs along with some other bonuses. The Shimmering Skies Illumineer's Trove is following the same model as the last couple of releases, containing a lore counter spinner, set of six miniature dice, and some card dividers to keep inks distinguished, all inside of a reasonably compact storage box.

Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies has revealed 11 cards for the set, which cover every Ink type and a number of different characters alongside a couple of locations. Separately, the promotional foil card coming to Disney Villainous has also been showcased, featuring a slumbering Prince John clutching one of his precious bags of gold.

These are only a small sample of the full array of cards that will appear in Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies, which is likely to match previous sets at slightly over 200 cards in total. There's a good bit of variety among the ones revealed so far, from the aggressive but elusive Elsa - The Fifth Spirit to the singing bodyguard Kristoff - Reindeer Keeper.

The one Legendary revealed so far is Donald Duck - Pie Slinger, which is great as a powerful early-game option thanks to both a Shift ability and a reward for using it, which docks 2 lore from opponents upon a Shift. If he can last until the mid-game, Donald gets a massive +6 boost to Strength while an opponent has 10 or more lore, raising his attack power to 9. This isn't Donald's first Legendary, but it certainly seems like a memorable one.

Disney Lorcana always continues to reveal cards in the time leading up to set releases, so more should keep trickling in ahead of the August launch of Shimmering Skies, including the rest of the Legendaries and the elusive Disney Lorcana Enchanted cards. For now, Ursula's Return and all the prior sets offer plenty for fans of the TCG to stay occupied with. When Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies does arrive, it could very well be another exciting addition to a game that's provided a lot of fun so far.
