The ninth set of Disney's trading card game (TCG), Disney Lorcana, will not only kick off the start of the game's third year but also brings numerous changes to the game itself. As the next chapter of the game begins, the team at Ravensburger has been looking at ways to make the game friendly for all types of players, whether someone wants to compete at a hardcore level or simply collect cards based on their favorite Disney characters. Though each set brings with it new cards and game mechanics, Fabled seems to touch on nearly every aspect of the game.

Following the release of Disney Lorcana: Reign of Jafar this June, the game will celebrate its second anniversary just before launching its ninth set, Fabled. The main displayed artwork for Fabled features Disney's own iconic Mickey and Minnie in fairytale garb and riding on carousel horses, providing a classic, nostalgic feeling. In fact, this artwork is extra notable as it is taken from a merging of Disney Lorcana's first two Iconic cards, which will debut with this set and continue for the foreseeable future. Fabled has much more than that in store for fans of Lorcana, however.

When Disney Lorcana: Fabled Releases

The Ninth Expansion Set For Disney Lorcana Arrives This September

The Disney Lorcana: Fabled set will be available for pre-release at local hobby stores and other select locations beginning on August 29, 2025, and then mark its full launch at mass market retailers on September 5. Many local game stores also feature pre-release events, so it is always recommended to check stores in your area to see what is available. This launch date continues the TCGs traditional schedule of releasing a new set roughly every three months, and allows for the next set, Whispers in the Well, to sneak in just in time for the end of the calendar year.

The Disney Lorcana: Fabled set will be available for pre-release at local hobby stores and other select locations beginning on August 29, 2025, and then mark its full launch at mass market retailers on September 5.

This release date for Fabled is just shy of Disney Lorcana's two-year anniversary on September 1, and kicks off the third year of card expansions. Lorcana puts out four sets each year of the game, using the anniversary of the game as the year marker. This is important to note with some of the changes that are taking place, beginning with Fabled. In particular, this release calendar will now dictate the rules of Disney Lorcana's new set rotation policy for Core Constructed tournaments.

Set Details For Fabled Include Big Changes To The TCG

Set Rotations Instituted For Core Constructed, And Two New Rarity Types Added

Recently, Ravensburger announced several big changes coming to Disney Lorcana, most of which are starting with Fabled as it kicks off the third year of the game. Perhaps the most controversial is the new rule introducing set rotations to Core Constructed tournament formats. Using the yearly calendar of Disney Lorcana releases, the only sets available for use in this tournament type will be the current and previous year's sets. Therefore, beginning with the launch of Fabled, all four of the sets that launched in Year One will no longer be accepted for use in Core Constructed decks.

This will continue where with the launch of set 13 in 2026, the four sets from Year Two will likewise be rotated out. This system is designed to keep the game from having the common problem of power creep in its competitive forms and provide a chance for new players to the game to enjoy it without feeling the need to purchase all previous sets.

Another large change to Disney Lorcana is the addition of two card rarity types, Iconic and Epic. Each will feature new rainbow-colored icons at the bottom of their cards to denote their rarity, and are being added to help add more collectibility of cards in the game. Epic will add another layer of collectible cards with pull rates somewhere between Legendary and Enchanted. Iconic will become the rarest card type, with beautiful card designs. These rarity types will begin in Fabled, with the first two Iconic cards featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Confirmed Cards For Disney Lorcana: Fabled Include Mickey And Minnie Iconic Cards

Many Reprints From The First Four Sets Expected

At the time of writing, very few new cards for Disney Lorcana: Fabled have been revealed. Yet, with the new implementation of the set rotation policy, it has been confirmed that the set will include many reprints of cards from the first four sets in the game. Though this may make Fabled seem a bit less exciting for pulls, it will allow for many fan-favorite cards to continue to be used as long as there is a reprint available in approved sets like Fabled.

Among these reprints are:

  • "Stitch - Rock Star"
  • "Maleficent - Monstrous Dragon"
  • "Tinker Bell - Giant Fairy"
  • "Winnie the Pooh - Hunny Wizard".

The beloved Hunny Wizard is also receiving a brand new Enchanted card version featuring alternate artwork which will be released with Fabled. Additionally, "Elsa - Snow Queen" will be reprinted as an Epic quality card.
