Players must go through a few steps to unlock the newly added Timon and Pumbaa characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley. They are new as of the Jungle Getaway update and are featured in the Lion King Realm, as to be expected. Players should be familiar with this realm by now, as Simba and Nala were previously there, and you will have to return to get these two added to the Valley as well.
Like many characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley, unlocking them is going to take a little bit of time and patience. Timon and Pumbaa are no exception; there is an extra step to unlock them beyond the usual friendship quests. In fact, to unlock Timon and Pumbaa, players must start with a different character - the Lion King himself.
How To Unlock Timon and Pumbaa
Simba Friendship Bond Prerequisite
Before thinking about bringing Timon and Pumbaa home, you must unlock Simba and bring him back to the Valley. After bringing Simba back, you must continue to raise your friendship with Simba. Otherwise, you will not receive the quest to unlock Timon and Pumbaa.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Finally Adds A Much-Needed Feature Fans Have Been Waiting For
Dreamlight Valley's next update is introducing a few quality-of-life improvements and a new Star Path, but one new feature is particularly exciting.
To start the quest, you must get Simba to at least Level 10 friendship level. This will require you to have completed the following quests:
- Stars To Guide Us
- Hakuna Matata
- The Great Gathering
- Seed of Memories
- The Dreamlight Grove
Once you have gotten through those quests and reached level 10 friendship in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you should talk to Simba again. This will trigger the Finding Old Friends Quest, where you can return to the Lion King Realm and find Timon and Pumbaa. However, this will set off another series of quests you must finish to unlock them. Before they agree to move, you will find that they require you to learn more about Hakuna Matata.
Completing The Finding Old Friends Quest
Learn About Hakuna Matata
The first thing you should do once you return to the Lion King Realm is talk to Timon. He will want you to dress like a lion, and you will be sent off to craft your Lion’s Mane. You can make your own crafting table or bring Timon 4 Jungle Stones and 4 Jungle Wood to have him do it for you.
All of the Jungle Stones and Wood are nearby your location. However, if you need more hints than are listed below, you can see all of the locations in Quick Tips' video.
A rock tunnel hides the last pieces of both items, so make sure to explore it to find the remaining materials.
Timon will turn these into a crafting table, which you can use whenever you are in this realm. You can then gather Red Leaves to make your Lion’s Mane. Again, they are all in the clearing nearby and the same rock tunnel. Everything should be the same around places; you shouldn’t have a problem tracking them down. Once you have the mane on, you can talk to Timon again.
He will then give you a task to get rid of your worries. You simply have to follow the pair further into the jungle and listen to their discussion. After that, you will be told to find and destroy an Old Crown. Go to the river and find some golden bubbles where you can fish to retrieve the crown, then give the crown to Timon and destroy it with a Pickax to satisfy the request.
Afterward, you must craft an Empty Vial using 3x Glass Pieces, which are craftable from 5x Sand and 1x Coal. Then, follow Timon to the river’s edge and scream into the vial - you can pick any dialogue option. Interact with the sparkling spot in the ground and let your worries go.
After that, you only need to return to Timon and Pumbaa and create three comfortable beds for all three of you. Then, you can listen to their conversation and go to bed. The Finding Old Friends quest will then automatically complete, and you will unlock the next quest.

Worry-Free Existence
Once you wake up, Pumbaa will give you the quest to make a hammock. You can use the same crafting station you made previously to make it with this recipe:
- 6x Jungle Vines
- 2x Bottles Of Palm Tree Sap
You can dig up these vines with your shovel; each time you do it, it will produce two pieces. Palm Tree Sap can be found by walking up to a tree and clicking the interact prompt. When you are close to a viable tree, you will know by the prompt coming up.
After sitting in the crafted Hammock, you must try out Pumbaa’s favorite nap spots. You will find them by looking for piles of giant leaves and interacting with them to test them out.
Once you have tested them all, you will have to rest in one of the spots while Pumbaa prepares the final spot. Then, you will have to splash in the mud, which you can create by using your watering can on Pumbaa’s favorite mud spots that they will lead you to. At this point, you will return to camp with the duo and talk about catching some Jungle Fireflies.
Catch three, and you can combine them in the Cooking Pot and them to Pumbaa. Take a picture with him, and then you can sleep after listening to them discuss it. You will then automatically complete this quest as well.
The Final Step To Unlock Timon And Pumbaa
The Where's Pumbaa Quest
The last quest you need to unlock both Timon and Pumbaa will be “Where’s Pumbaa?” which will unlock on the last morning. He will be missing when you wake up, and he will be stuck in a log near the portal to the Valley. You will have to take a photo of him before making a new recipe in Disney Dreamlight Valley to slip him out.
You will have to go to the river and use your pickax to break four rocks and get the following:
- 2x Yellow Oily Bug
- 1x Red Oily Bug
- 1x Blue Oily Bug
Then, use those bugs to make the following two recipes:
Orange Bug Oil |
Green Bug Oil |
---|---|
1x Yellow Oily Bug |
1x Yellow Oily Bug |
1x Red Oily Bug |
1x Blue Oily Bug |
Combine those two recipes in the Cooking Pot, and you will end up with Super Slippery Bug Oil. Take these back to Timon, who will put the oil in your watering can. This allows you to use the watering can on Pumbaa, but it won’t work. You will then have to return to the Valley.
Talk to Goofy in the Valley, and he will give you a suggestion as well as his Old Plunger. You will then need to raid your stocks and possibly find some new ingredients to reinforce the Plunger, as shown below:
Ingredient |
Quantity |
Where To Find/How To Make |
---|---|---|
Iron Ingot |
10x |
Mine Rock Spots For:

Then return to Pumbaa and free him from the log. At this point, you can officially invite both of them to return to Dreamlight Valley and talk to them to confirm their decision. After that, return to the Valley, and they will be waiting for you. All you need to do after that is take a photo with each of them individually. The Quest will officially be completed, and you will have unlocked both Timon and Pumbaa in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Timon & Pumbaa Friendship Quests
Unfinished Business
To continue your bonds with Timon and Pumbaa, you must complete more quests for both of them. For Pumbaa, you will have to complete the following:
- Something's Off (Level 2)
- Fine Arts For Warthogs (Level 4)
- Down To Earth (Level 7)
- The Infestation Part 2 (Level 10)
Their friendship quests are also interconnected with the original quests to unlock them. The Infestation Quests are the biggest example, as Timon has two parts and Pumbaa has one. To level Timon up to friendship level 10, you will have to complete these quests:
- Old Enemies (Level 2)
- Curious About Critters (Level 4)
- The Timon Talk (Level 7)

- The Infestation Part 3 (Level 10)
With the friendship bonds completed and Timon and Pumbaa safely in Dreamlight Valley, you will have two new friends and two more villagers in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
