Summary
- Disney CEO Bob Iger is slowing down MCU projects, focusing on known properties like The Fantastic Four.
- Disney has canceled unnamed projects that were seen as weaker in order to prioritize quality in future releases.
- Iger believes audiences want great films, and doesn't the idea of superhero or audience fatigue.
Disney CEO Bob Iger previously made comments about the new direction he wants for the like The Fantastic Four. It now seems as though Iger will be following through with those ideas.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Iger made new statements while speaking at a conference that could hint at his future MCU plans. Iger discussed the need to cut projects that he no longer believes in, which could bode ill for certain Marvel releases. Iger's comments on canceling projects can be seen below:
It’s not an easy thing, but you got to make those tough calls. We’ve actually made those tough calls. We’ve not been that public about it, but we’ve killed a few projects already that we just didn’t feel were strong enough.
As Iger says, Disney has not yet publicly announced which projects may be cancelled, but it's probably safe to assume at least some are announced MCU projects that no longer felt like they would work. Iger went on to say that these cancellations are being made in order to make sure MCU movies and shows can focus on their quality. Iger also referenced talks of superhero fatigue, which he seemingly thinks isn't as big of an issue as the quality of individual films, saying:
A lot of people think it’s audience fatigue, it’s not audience fatigue. They want great films. And if you build it great, they will come and there are countless examples of that. Some are ours and some are others’. Oppenheimer is a perfect example of that. Just a fantastic film. Focus is really important. We reduced the output of Marvel, both number of films they make and the number of TV shows, and that really becomes critical, but I feel good about the team. I feel good about the IP we’re making.
Iger's comments about audience fatigue seem to be ed, not just by Oppenheimer, but also by the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It seems as though Iger is still committed to making MCU movies, he just wants to ensure the quality of the projects that Disney and Marvel are putting out.

Which MCU Projects Could Be In Danger Of Being Cancelled
There Are A Number Of Announced Movies And Shows That Don't Have Release Dates
The MCU currently has a lot of announced projects. MCU shows and movies that have already started production are likely to still be released, especially those with announced release dates. Conversely, the MCU projects that are likely to be in the most danger are those that don't have a release date or any concrete details. The currently untitled Nova series seems likely to get the ax, seeing as Nova isn't the type of easily recognized hero Iger has mentioned wanting. Aside from Nova, however, it gets a little trickier to predict which movies or TV series may get cancelled.

While Armor Wars isn't a recognizable title, it will feature major characters like James Rhodes (Don Cheadle). This one could just get rebranded to War Machine or maybe even Iron Man 4 to help make it more in line with Iger's plans. Vision Quest may be in trouble since there hasn't been much talk about it and Vision hasn't played a role in the MCU since WandaVision. Any major project like Spider-Man 4 is likely a safe bet, but any other MCU titles without a solid release plan seem like they could be in danger of being cancelled, if they haven't been already.
