Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, episode 5, "The Bird Always Knows".Central Park community in The Walking Dead spinoff, Maggie was tasked with bringing Negan and the Croat to a boathouse where the villain intended to execute them. She also imprisoned Perlie and Roksana while ensuring Hershel stayed in the community, giving Maggie no option but to comply with her demands; however, the protagonist had other plans.
She returned during the evening to try and take down Narvaez but was stopped by Ginny. As a result, Narvaez decided to publicly hang Roksana and intended to do the same to Maggie, but with the Central Park community drawing walkers to the location, all hell broke loose. Ginny successfully prevented Maggie's death by freeing her from the noose, but not before she was attacked by zombies. Although she stole Narvaez's pistol earlier in the season, Ginny didn't have the gun handy in season 2's fifth episode, resulting in her sustaining a nasty wound while escaping the horde.
Ginny Was Wounded During The Fight, But She's Not Bitten
Despite Sustaining A Nasty Injury, Ginny Seemed To Avoid Being Bitten
Despite her wound looking particularly painful, Ginny doesn't appear to have been bitten during the dramatic sequence towards the end of "The Bird Always Knows". Considering Ginny didn't talk to anyone after Dead City season 2's most eventful scene yet, some viewers may have assumed she picked up a bite during her confrontation with the zombies, but one moment showcases exactly when she got hurt. Moments before rescuing Maggie, Ginny was grabbed by a walker that pushed her back against an object which briefly impaled her, indicating that this is where her wound came from.

9 Years After The Walking Dead Killed Glenn, Negan Is Turning Glenn's Son Into A Villain
Nine years after The Walking Dead killed off Glenn, Negan is turning Glenn's son, Hershel, into a villain as The Walking Dead: Dead City continues.
Audiences can be forgiven for not picking up on the moment, given how dark the entire sequence was, but this looked to be the only injury Ginny picked up. Although the damage seems pretty severe, Ginny did a good job of disguising the pain, and it doesn't seem to be immediately life-threatening considering she functioned without too many problems during the immediate aftermath. Still, with her sustaining the wound during a fight with the undead, it's not out of the question that her allies will assume she's infected if they discover that Ginny is hiding her injury.
It's Too Early For Ginny To Die In The Walking Dead: Dead City
Ginny Can't Die Before Having Her Much-Needed Confrontation With Negan
At first glance, Ginny's injury doesn't seem to be anything major to worry about, which is a major relief since her character still has more to offer in Dead City. Despite being one of the quietest characters in the show, she has had some great development, going from an almost lost survivor in need of guidance to a vengeful young woman who can hold her own. She may still be young, but Ginny has proven that she can handle herself more than many of New Babylon's so-called best soldiers, and her dynamic with Negan still needs a resolution.
After confessing to killing her dad, Negan and Ginny's relationship fell apart in Dead City, with the latter looking determined to kill her former father figure. It may be a bit too bold for The Walking Dead to kill off Negan in a spinoff show, especially at the hands of a relatively new character, but they still need to confront one another before either loses their lives. Therefore, Dead City must keep Ginny around long enough for her to either patch things up with Negan or outgrow him, which would complete her main character arc.
What Ginny's Wound Means For Her Walking Dead Future
Ginny's Injury Could Result In Negan Having To Save Her
Considering Dead City put a big emphasis on Ginny's wound, it looks destined to play a role going forward. It's possible that Maggie, Perlie, or Hershel discover the injury and assume it's a bite, but none of them are likely to kill her over a hunch unless The Walking Dead goes all in on making Hershel a villain. Instead, it seems more probable that the wound will get worse, potentially causing an infection that limits Ginny's effectiveness and requires medical attention. Her stubbornness may then prompt her to ignore any concerns and continue hunting Negan, leading to big problems.

From here, it could be up to Negan to rescue Ginny, potentially giving them a chance to have their long-overdue conversation where they may finally patch things up. Having Negan take down the rest of Manhattan's villains with the help of Maggie before saving Ginny's life would also be a great end to the duo's Dead City story while giving Ginny a chance to the franchise's younger survivors. Therefore, it seems likely that the injury will be used to further her story with Negan in some way, making me all the more interested to see how Ginny's journey concludes.
