Set photos from Deadpool 3 confirm that Hugh Jackman will suit up in a comic-accurate Wolverine costume in the MCU's Phase 5. Ryan Reynolds was the first actor from Fox's X-Men franchise confirmed to be ing the MCU after Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019, bringing his fan-favorite version of Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, into Marvel Studios' franchise. In September 2022, however, Hugh Jackman was announced to be ing him as James "Logan" Howlett, a.k.a. Wolverine, a role that Jackman previously retired from after 2017's Logan. While details of Deadpool 3's storyline have been scarce, new set photos provide some exciting revelations for MCU audiences.

Hugh Jackman debuted as Wolverine in 2000's X-Men, and has since gone on to become one of the longest-serving actors in any superhero franchise, playing the mutant hero in ten projects over a span of 24 years after the release of 2024's Deadpool 3. While it had previously been believed that he wouldn't reprise the role after exploring Wolverine's death in Logan, Deadpool 3 will mark his triumphant return to the big screen, and new set photos reveal Jackman in a comic-accurate Wolverine costume for the first time. While Wolverine's new MCU suit resembles that from Marvel Comics, Marvel Studios has made a few changes to the suit.

8 Wolverine's MCU Costume Has Sleeves

One of the most notable changes to Wolverine's superhero suit is the addition of full-length sleeves that completely cover Jackman's arms. In Marvel Comics, Wolverine's standard costumes don't include sleeves, instead cutting off at the shoulders, and sporting gloves, though leaving his biceps and elbows free. His arms could have been left free in Marvel Comics to allow for ease of movement, particularly since Wolverine's muscles are massive and would perhaps feel restrained by sleeves, but this has been changed for Jackman's MCU appearance. Hugh Jackman's muscles are also undeniably huge, but perhaps there's simply no need for his arms to be free in Deadpool 3.

7 Wolverine's Superhero Suit Has Claw Sheaths

One of the trademarks of Wolverine's costumes in Marvel Comics is that they're built with claw sheaths that allow his huge claws to extend without damaging the suit. This has been incorporated into the MCU's costume for Jackman's Wolverine, in a vast contrast to Jackman's career in the Fox X-Men franchise. Wolverine's X-Men suits never had specific sheaths, so it's great that Marvel Studios has incorporated this, as it sets this version of Wolverine apart from his previous iteration. It's also a detail that Marvel Comics fans will appreciate, as Fox dulled down the X-Men's costumes, but Marvel Studios isn't shying away from the comic-accurate vividness of the suits.

6 The X-Men Logo Is On Wolverine's New Superhero Suit

Though it's difficult to see clearly in the set photo from Deadpool 3, Wolverine's MCU costume includes an "X" symbol on his belt, signifying the logo of the X-Men. This resembles how Deadpool has his logo on his belt buckle, and how previous iterations of Wolverine have been seen with the logo on his suit. This suggests that the Wolverine seen in these Deadpool 3 set photos is a member of the X-Men, perhaps teasing an appearance of the full X-Men team in Deadpool 3. It's possible this could be an X-Men team in which everyone dons comic-accurate costumes, which would be fantastic for avid fans of Marvel Comics.

5 Wolverine's Shoulder Pads Are Smaller In The MCU

While Wolverine's suit in Marvel Comics doesn't include sleeves, and instead ends at the shoulders, the hero's shoulders are accentuated in brilliant comic style with massive shoulder pads. These are an iconic piece of Wolverine's costume, so it wouldn't be right to adapt the costume into the MCU's Deadpool 3 without including the shoulder pads. For Deadpool 3, Wolverine's shoulder pads will be smaller than those seen in Marvel Comics in the spirit of realism, but it's great that Marvel Studios has utilized them at all. This proves that Marvel Studios is diving headfirst into creating comic-accurate MCU costumes, as they have for several heroes during the MCU's Multiverse Saga.

4 MCU's Wolverine Suit Is Brighter Than Fox's Deleted Scene Tease

Deadpool 3 isn't the first time that Wolverine's comic-accurate suit has been teased in live-action. 2000's X-Men mocked the idea of "yellow spandex" costumes, and one deleted scene from 2013's The Wolverine even gave audiences a glimpse at Wolverine's superhero suit - though he never actually sported it in Fox's X-Men franchise. In The Wolverine's deleted scene, Wolverine's costume was yellow and black, rather than blue, creating a much darker aesthetic for the clawed hero than what has currently been glimpsed in set photos for Deadpool 3. This fit the tone of the grittier X-Men franchise, but Marvel Studios needed to brighten the suit up for the more light-hearted MCU.

3 The MCU's Wolverine Suit Is Less Blue Than In Marvel Comics

In the spirit of brightening the suit up for the MCU, Marvel Studios implemented the iconic yellow and blue color pallette from Marvel Comics' Wolverine costume for Deadpool 3. Although both yellow and blue can be seen quite clearly on the suit, however, the MCU's costume has far less blue than Marvel Comics' version, with yellow being the clear dominant color. Only Jackman's shoulders, hands, sides, and boots are blue, and the shade of blue is slightly darker than his Marvel Comics counterpart. This has perhaps been done so that the patterns on Wolverine's suit resemble those on Deadpool's, who has black in the same areas as Wolverine's blue patches.

2 Deadpool & Wolverine's Suits Could Be Made From The Same Material

With similar color patches on both of their suits, it seems as though Marvel Studios is striving for synergy between Deadpool and Wolverine in Deadpool 3. After relentless Hugh Jackman-related jokes in Fox's Deadpool franchise, Deadpool 3 marks the first time these versions of the characters will be seen together, so it's brilliant to see them matching in some respects. This also comes down to the materials used to create the suits, as both seem to be made of the same fabric. Perhaps Deadpool himself helped Wolverine design his new costume, or had one pre-made in case Wolverine ever happened to be involved in one of his adventures.

1 Where Is Wolverine's Mask?

While much of Deadpool 3 clearly resembles that from Marvel Comics, there is one iconic piece of costume still missing in the set photos: Wolverine's mask. In Marvel Comics, Wolverine's helmet covers the top half of his face, following the same yellow and blue pattern with a main yellow shell and blue wings extending from his eyes. This comic-accurate mask was teased in The Wolverine's deleted scene, but hasn't been seen in the set photos for Deadpool 3. It's possible that Hugh Jackman will sport the full outfit for Deadpool 3, finally bringing a comic-accurate Wolverine to live-action for the first time since his debut in 2000.
