Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds' rivalry is going to a new level as Deadpool 3 set photos reveal a Wolverine vs. Wade fight in the wreckage of 20th Century Fox. The threequel will introduce Reynolds' fourth-wall-breaking mercenary to the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after previously sharing loose ties to Fox's now-ended X-Men franchise. Plot details are currently under wraps on Deadpool 3, though it is being described as a buddy road comedy with Deadpool and Wolverine going through the multiverse
Fresh off the first look revealed of the long-awaited threequel, Twitter Deadpool 3 set photos (via Daily Mail).
The images, as seen above, reveal Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth and Jackman's Wolverine in a heated fight, with the latter seemingly stabbing the former multiple times. The images also highlight some of the wire work going into Reynolds' stuntwork as Deadpool, carrying over the character's acrobatic abilities seen in the first two movies.
A subsequent post further revealed that the fight is taking place in the wreckage of 20th Century Fox. The iconic logo for the now-Disney-owned studio can be seen buried into a nearby cliffside, its golden frame now decayed from being there for an unknown period of time.
What The New Deadpool 3 Set Photos Could Mean For The Movie
With the characters having a semi-antagonistic relationship in the comics, there have been expectations that Deadpool 3 would see Reynolds' assassin and Jackman's Wolverine would come to blows at some point in the movie. The two actors have even kept their faux feud alive on social media through the movie's development and filming, namely in their training routines to get back in shape for their characters' long-awaited returns to the screen.
Given Wade was last seen in possession of a time-travel device in Deadpool 2, there have been theories and reports that Owen Wilson's Time Variance Authority Agent Mobius will appear in the movie to rectify Wade's Nexus events. The presence of a wrecked 20th Century Fox could indicate these theories to be true to some degree, with the region potentially being a branched timeline caused in part by Deadpool. This would also be a fun way to wrap Deadpool's time in Fox's X-Men franchise with the ultimate fourth-wall jab following the studio's transition and closure from the Disney merger.
The big question then becomes the exact reason for Deadpool and Wolverine actually fighting in the Deadpool 3 set photos. Given the difference in personalities between Reynolds and Jackman's characters, it could simply be this difference of views, though considering how furious Wolverine looks in the images, it seems just as likely Deadpool's multiverse-breaking antics have left them stranded in an unknown realm that makes Logan officially lose his cool. With just shy of a year still to go until its release, though, audiences will have to continue speculating what the set photos could be setting up.
