Reportedly, sources familiar with the development of EA Motive is helming Dead Space's return, which Electronic Arts formally announced during EA Play Live in July with a perfectly atmospheric teaser trailer.

The publisher confirmed a few other details, too, chief among them being that players will board the USG Ishimura via their PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. A last-gen version of the remake is not in the works, meaning EA Motive's ground-up rebuild of the celebrated sci-fi horror title will take full advantage of the newest hardware. Stunning visuals and enhanced audio should serve as only part of the equation, with the developers also set to improve upon the story and gameplay. Specifics about what this may entail remains a mystery; launch details for the Dead Space remake haven't received confirmation, either. But a new report claims the wait could end in a little over a year.

According to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, sources familiar with the project's development claim EA is targeting a late 2022 release window for Dead Space. Grubb's report further notes the publisher intends to reveal more about the title before the end of this year; however, it's unclear what form the fresh information could take, be it a new trailer or a potential surprise at The Game Awards. The journalist reached out to EA for comment and received the following response: "We haven’t shared a release date for the game, and we don’t have any comment based on the current rumor and speculation. But we’re glad people are excited for the game!"

Everything Revealed At EA Play Live 2021 Dead Space Remake

Because EA itself remains mum about its release plans, all of the above should be taken with a grain of salt. Regardless of the finer details, though, fans can rest assured that, at the very least, Dead Space has officially stepped off the sidelines.

Dead Space faithful have long waited for the property's resurgence, especially since its last entry, 2013's Dead Space 3, failed to hit the mark. Cooperative gameplay and the lack of emphasis on survival horror didn't do the game any favors, and neither did the widely criticized microtransactions.
