Why Milly Alcock Is The Perfect Supergirl For The DCU

House Of The Dragon's Milly Alcock with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic

Alcock is a great choice to play the version of Kara Zor-El that the DCU is going for. Different from the usual Supergirl stories, the character's DCU arc will mostly do away with the usually cheerful Supergirl in order to tell a deeply resonating narrative. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be based on a comic book of the same name, which was written by one of the DCU's architects, Tom King, and featured gorgeous art from Bilquis Evely.

The movie will focus on a Supergirl who had to grow up on a piece of Krypton that flew off when the planet was destroyed. Over the years, she watched as everyone died around her, with no way of making it off the floating space rock. Years later, Supergirl appears as a hardened hero due to all the hardships she has had to go through. With the help of a curious companion, the character's hard exterior is slowly broken down to show the classic Supergirl is inside.

Alcock has shown in her breakout role in House of the Dragon that she has the necessary charisma to captivate audiences as Kara Danvers and the dramatic chops to dive deep into this more cynical version of the character that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will focus on. At 23, Alcock nearly matches Kara's age at the start of the comic, which features Supergirl's 21st birthday as an important plot point. Alcock's Supergirl will now share the next ten years of the DCU with David Corenswet's Clark Kent, starting with 2025's Superman: Legacy.

Superman: Legacy releases in theaters on July 11, 2025, while Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow still has no release date.
