Warning! Spoilers for Dark Crisis: Worlds Without A Justice League - Green Arrow #1 ahead! It looks like one member of the Justice League is going to be the next DC character leading a united, themed family. Dark Crisis: Worlds Without A Justice League - Green Arrow #1 presents Oliver Queen and his allies as the DC Universe's new family team.
One of DC's oldest traditions is having its heroes develop, grow and tend to teams that them in their crime-fighting crusades. Often these teams are built out of familial connections or close allies, which is why fans usually colloquilally refer to these groups as 'families'. Arguably the most well-known is the Bat-Family, built out of Batman's many sidekicks and other heroes in Gotham. Superman also has his own Super Family, as well as the Scarlet Speedsters with the Flash Family. The families serve to aid one another in taking down powerful enemies, as well as provide social bonds and emotional for one another.
And now it seems that Green Arrow could finally get the 'Arrow Family' fans of the various archers have clamored for for quite some time. In Dark Crisis: Worlds Without A Justice League - Green Arrow #1 by Stephanie Phillips and Clayton Henry, Green Arrow and Black Canary are trapped in prison worlds constructed by Pariah. On Oliver's world, he's living out his Robin Hood inspiration quite literally, living in a medieval setting and flummoxing the greedy sheriff Malcolm Merylyn as he terrorizes the poor and desperate townsfolk. But Oliver is not alone, for he is ed by his Merry Men, that is to say, his various partners over the years: Roy Harper, Mia Dearden and Connor Hawke all assist Green Arrow in vanquishing Merlyn's forces and allowing Queen the chance to pursue his enemy into the woods.
Is Green Arrow The Next Justice Leaguer to Form a 'Family'?
Granted, it’s not like the allies of Green Arrow haven’t worked alongside one another before. At various times throughout the years, Oliver has teamed up with Connor, Mia, and Roy, and each of them has interchangeably worked together. But rarely has the entire crew been on the same page long enough to work together largely due to interpersonal drama. With the Dark Crisis approaching its end, could the Arrow team finally put their various dramas behind them?
While there isn’t a hero team around that’s a stranger to drama, there’s a bit of intensity when it comes to Green Arrow and his crew. From Oliver’s personal failings as a father to Connor Hawke to Roy blaming Mia for the death of his daughter Lian, there’s always been issues that have kept the team more fractured than Flash or Superman’s families. But Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths has show almost everyone the value of the people in their lives. If there’s one thing Oliver has learned from his own idealized world, it’s that he’s lucky to have his ‘Merry Men’ and that they can work well together. There’s always room for more superhero families and Green Arrow would be the perfect Justice League member to form the next one.
