DC Extended Universe has gone through many changes following the underperformance of some of its biggest movies, which prompted the studio to make some changes to its future projects, giving some characters their own movies, continuing the stories of previously established heroes, and separating others from the DCEU, as happened with Batman.

The Batman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2022 but not the only one from DC and Warner coming this year, and there are also many other projects – both part of the DCEU and separate from it – coming in the near future or currently in development, further expanding this now extensive universe of superheroes. After the darkness and action of The Batman, DC is taking a break with a computer-animated superhero movie in HBO Max 45 days after its theatrical release.

The next live-action movie from DC is Black Adam will also introduce a bunch of new characters from DC Comics, such as Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan).

The Flash - November 4, 2022

One of the most anticipated movies from the DCEU is The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti and with Ezra Miller reprising his role as Barry Allen. Influenced by fan-favorite comic book storyline Flashpoint, The Flash will see Barry Allen traveling back in time to prevent his mother’s death, but time traveling can bring major consequences to his original timeline. In the process, he will come across alternate versions of himself as well as Man of Steel. The Flash will be available to stream on HBO Max 45 days later.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom - December 16, 2022

Next in line, and most likely closing DC’s 2022 movies, is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, directed by James Wan. Plot details on Aquaman’s second solo adventure are still kept under wraps, but it will see the return of Mera (Amber Heard), Orm Marius (Patrick Wilson), Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe), Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), Thomas Curry (Temuera Morrison), King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren), and Atlanna (Nicole Kidman). Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will also be available to stream on HBO Max 45 days later.

Batgirl - 2022

Batgirl is getting her own movie with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah as directors and Leslie Grace as the title character. A Batgirl movie has been in development since 2017, and after a couple of changes in its production crew, it finally moved forward in 2018. Plot details about Firefly (Brendan Fraser). Batgirl is expected to be released on HBO Max sometime in 2022.

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods - June 2, 2023

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will kick off 2023 for DC and Warner. Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will bring back Zachary Levi as Shazam and Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman and Adam Brody as his adult superhero form, and Djimon Hounsou as the wizard Shazam. The second Shazam movie will also count on the talents of Helen Mirren as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso, the daughters of Atlas, as well as Rachel Zegler in a still undisclosed role.

Supergirl - 2022/2023

Sasha Calle’s Supergirl will debut in The Flash and will return in her own movie sometime in 2022 or 2023. Unfortunately, there are no details about Supergirl beyond Calle’s casting, only that Warner Bros. is reportedly looking for a female director. Given how little information there is and that the project is still waiting for a director, it’s more likely that Supergirl will see the light in 2023.

Green Lantern Corps - 2022/2023

Zack Snyder’s Justice League as the studio has other plans for him. Green Lantern Corps is scheduled for a 2022-2023 release.

Zatanna - 2022/2023

The DCEU will introduce magician Zatanna sometime in 2022-2023. In 2018, Warner Bros. was reportedly considering bringing Zatanna to the big screen, and in 2021, an AT&T investor presentation revealed that a Zatanna movie was in development. Zatanna will be produced by J. J. Abrams and written by Emerald Fennell, and that’s all that is known about the project.
