The new even a Clayface movie in the works.
It’s hard to speculate what fans will get to see at this early juncture. But Batman punching Green Lantern’s lights out or Wonder Woman competing against her Amazon sisters never seen in film, the DCU would be well served adapting them. Read on to discover ten moments that would really take the DCU to the next level.
10 Batman Meets His Son
Batman #656
Gunn has already confirmed that fans will see Batman fighting alongside his son Damian in the The Brave and the Bold film. To help fans get better acquainted with Damian Wayne, why not feature a flashback that shows how the two met? Specifically, the shock that came when Batman met his son when Talia al Ghul sprung Damian's existence on Batman and the boy drew a sword on his own father. It’s an interesting first meeting between the two and really showcases just how odd their dynamic started before growing into a much healthier one.
9 Justice League vs. Starro
The Brave and the Bold #28
The DCEU Justice League movie opted to bring the iconic team together in a story inspired by their New 52 origins where they took on Darkseid’s forces. The new DCU could really differentiate itself by having the Justice League’s first fight be with the first villain they were ever seen fighting in the comics: the alien invader Starro. To be fair, Gunn already showcased Starro in The Suicide Squad, but thanks to the soft reboot, that’s likely not canon anymore. Even just a flashback of the Justice League fighting Starro would be a real treat for fans.
8 Terra's Betrayal of the Titans
Tales of the Teen Titans #42
A DCU Titans movie is also on the horizon, though it’s still in the very early stages. When it comes to Titans’ storylines, what arcs are more famous than the infamous “Judas Contract” plot, that had the team betrayed by one of their own? Terra revealing herself as a traitor working with Deathstroke was a real dagger in the heart, and it’d be great to see that kind of moment adapted into a film. It’s definitely an uncomfortable arc, but it’s something that could really blindside the general audiences when Terra finally turns against the Titans.
7 Batman Shooting Darkseid
Final Crisis #6
The DCU is far from an event film like Endgame. But there are a lot of big moments from epic storylines that would be amazing to see. Final Crisis, for example, made Darkseid a bigger threat than ever, so much so that it pushed Batman to break his biggest rule and use a gun to defeat Darkseid. Fans have seen the Dark Knight’s morality challenged before and while no fan likes seeing him use a gun, most agree this was justified. It’d be interesting to see how a larger fanbase reacts to seeing Batman shoot a New God.
6 Bullets and Bracelets
All-Star Comics #8
The 2017 Wonder Woman movie did a great job showing off Wonder Woman’s origin, but the one thing fans didn’t get to see was the infamous ‘Bullets and Bracelets’ trial. The test was part of the trial Diana competed in to become the Amazons’ representative to Man’s World, but unfortunately, it’s something that was left out of the DCEU. However, with the Amazon-focused series Paradise Lost in the works, perhaps fans could see a couple of flashbacks to Diana’s early days on Themyscira and show how she bested her sisters in order to become Wonder Woman.
5 Superman Losing His Pa
All-Star Superman #6
The greatest lesson Superman has ever learned is that he can’t save everyone and what generally teaches him that lesson is losing his pa. Both Superman and Man of Steel showcased this moment (albeit in very different manners), but losing Jonathan Kent is something that almost has to happen in the films. Jonathan is alive in Gunn’s Superman reboot, and nothing would hit harder or resonate with fans more than Superman being too late to save his father from a heart attack. It’s sad, but such a scene would really stir the emotions of fans everywhere.
4 Batman Punching Guy Gardner
Justice League #5
The first Green Lantern fans are going to get to know in the DCU is Guy Gardner, who’s going to show up in Superman, Peacemaker season two, and the Lanterns show. So much exposure to Guy means that the DCU has to adapt one of the best moments from the comics, namely Batman delivering a punch right to Guy’s face. That one punch is looked back on as one of the funniest moments in DC history and, while Batman has yet to appear in the DCU (beyond a cameo), it’d be great to see this come to life.
3 Flash Outracing Superman
Flash Rebirth #3
The competition between the Flash and Superman is one that goes back decades. But for all the races the two have had, one of the best moments came from a candid conversation between Clark Kent and Barry Allen when the former brings up the fact that he won some of their races. But in true Flash fashion, Barry tells his friend that “those were for charity, Clark” before rapidly outpacing him. Fans love seeing their favorite heroes trade the occasional barb and it’d be so good to see the DCU Flash egg Superman on like this.
2 "Batman and Robin Will Never Die!"
Batman #676
The infamous “Batman R.I.P.” arc opened with a flash-forward of the Dark Knight declaring “You’re wrong! Batman and Robin will never die!”. It was later revealed that the Batman in this scene wasn’t Bruce, but rather his former sidekick, Dick Grayson. Presumably, the DCU’s Batman is going to be Bruce for the considerable future. But if it does last long enough to let Dick step in and assume the mantle, it’d be great to see this scene replicated. Such a powerful line really sells the idea that no matter what happens, there’s always going to be a Batman.
1 The Flash's Greatest Sacrifice
Crisis on Infinite Earths #8
If the DCU is around long enough, there’s a chance that it could adapt Crisis on Infinite Earths. If that’s the case, then the one thing that’s non-negotiable in adapting is the Flash’s sacrifice. While no one really loves seeing their favorite heroes die, the Flash has one of the best sacrifices in DC, and overall comic, history to give his allies a fighting chance against the Anti-Monitor. Even CW’s adaptation of the event had the elder Flash, Jay Garrick, give up his life, proving that when it comes to bringing this story to life, a Flash has to die.
