James Gunn's Superman: Legacy will feature several Justice League characters as three new actors have been tapped for the reboot. DC Studios are gearing up to launch a brand new DC Universe, with several movies and TV shows currently in the works. The first proper Chapter 1 movie will be Superman: Legacy, which Gunn wrote and will direct. While Superman: Legacy recently cast its new Lois Lane and Clark Kent, the reboot is not holding back on the superhero action. Vanity Fair reveals that Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, and Nathan Fillion have been cast. Merced will play Hawkgirl, Gathegi will be Mister Terrific, and Fillion will be the Guy Gardner version of Green Lantern. Fillion previously starred in Gunn's The Suicide Squad as T.D.K., but with the DCEU ending this year, the new DC Universe allows the actor to come back in a completely different role.

Gunn later confirmed the news and welcomed all three stars to the cast of Superman: Legacy in a tweet. He tagged each actor and confirmed their roles.

From the beginning, Gunn made it clear that Superman: Legacy wouldn't be a traditional origin story for Krypton's last son, but rather focus on a younger Clark in his early days as a superhero. With that in mind, it opened the door for the DC Universe to tackle the superhero landscape within their world differently from the DCEU by having other heroes already established around Superman. In Man of Steel, it was vague about how many heroes were actually established at that point, even though people like Batman were active elsewhere.

The bigger intrigue with these additions is whether Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific will have major roles, or if they are there to appear in ing capacities. If rumors are true that Superman: Legacy will set up The Authority, the 2025 film could also be serving as a launching pad for spinoff projects centered around the three new characters. In Fillion's case, there is the Lanterns TV show with Hal Jordan and John Stewart that he could appear in after Superman: Legacy.

At the end of the day, Superman: Legacy will be told from Clark's point of view, meaning that even if more heroes get added to the reboot, this is still primarily a Superman movie. Nevertheless, it is still exciting to see how Gunn is making his film vastly different than those that have come before. Time will tell when the next batch of casting news will come out for Superman: Legacy, as the potential SAG-AFTRA strike may delay the process if it goes into effect.
