Lucasfilm has announced 3 Star Wars movies set over 25,000 years. The last few years have seen Star Wars transform into a trailblazing transmedia franchise, with an ever-expanding number of Disney+ TV shows such as The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka. The Star Wars movies, however, have been on hiatus since the end of the sequel trilogy and the shutdown of the anthology projects. Still, Lucasfilm reserved a release date of December 19, 2025, and there have been reports the studio intends to "ramp up" Star Wars movies. That naturally meant attendees to Star Wars Celebration 2023 expected an announcement.Speaking at the Star Wars Celebration Lucasfilm Studio , attended by SR, Kathleen Kennedy shared details on the 3 new Star Wars movies set over 25,000 years.

This included title drops, story reveals, returning cast , and who will be writing and directing each film. All the new movies are ones that fans had previously predicted or strongly hoped would happen, kicking off Star Wars Celebration 2023 with a bang. Here are all 3 movies that were announced at Star Wars Celebration, which creative teams are behind them, and when each movie will be set over the course of 25,000 years.

Star Wars: New Jedi Order

The first and perhaps most significant movie announcement is Rey's return in Star Wars: New Jedi Order. Set 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the sequel will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and written by Steven Knight, with Daisy Ridley reprising her role. It will follow Jedi Master Rey Skywalker rebuilding the Jedi Order after the events of the sequel trilogy. Rey returning to the big screen so soon is huge for Star Wars, as is finally getting to see the New Jedi Order in all its glory, though it's currently unknown if this is the film slated to be released in 2025.

The Mandalorian Movie

The next big Star Wars project announced at Celebration was The Mandalorian movie by director Dave Filoni, known by many as George Lucas' apprentice. This is another big surprise, as instead of wrapping up Din Djarin and Grogu's stories on Disney+, their arcs will be completed on the big screen. It's also fitting that Dave Filoni finally has the opportunity to direct a live-action Star Wars film, after being mentored by George Lucas while the two collaborated on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Jon Favreau expressed his deep gratitude to Filoni on the Celebration stage for his contribution to all things, indicating that The Mandalorian movie is in good hands.

Star Wars: Dawn Of The Jedi

Star Wars Celebration's final movie reveal was James Mangold's Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi, set 25,000 years in the galaxy's past. With so many previously announced Star Wars movies on the back burner, this movie is a very welcome announcement, especially since Mangold had previously been rumored to direct a Star Wars feature. Star Wars: The Last Jedi hinted at the Jedi Order's origins on Ahch-To, and the Dawn of the Jedi books and comics were some of the most fascinating stories in the Star Wars Legends continuity, so Mangold's movie has the potential to be the greatest Star Wars spinoff yet.

The future of Star Wars on the big screen has been uncertain since the lukewarm reception to The Rise of Skywalker, with Disney CEO Bob Iger itting that the company released too much, too soon. However, these announcements confirm that the franchise has a bright cinematic future, offering moviegoers a variety of exciting stories. It's clear that the team at Lucasfilm has learned from past mistakes, trimming down on the number of movies so that each one gets the attention and resources they deserve. 3 new Star Wars movies set over 25,000 are on the way, and that alone is worthy of celebration.
