Viewers of she was super polite on all her dates. Touré, Reuben, Maria, True, and Brooke were the lucky five that got to date Deva during her episode. She was glad when True asked about her music, and said, "I actually recorded for the very first time when I was five or six with my dad. If you listen to American blues and roots music then you would know who my dad is. Taj Mahal." Both Touré and True seemed impressed with the fact that Deva's dad is Taj Mahal and rightly so as he's a trailblazer in the music world.
Born in Harlem in 1942, Taj Mahal is a multitalented musician who is considered a pioneer in World Music. As written in his biography, Taj is "not only a god to rock-and-roll icons such as Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones but also a hero to ambitious artists toiling in obscurity who are determined to combine sounds that have heretofore been ostracized from one another". "Leaving Trunk", "Statesboro Blues", "Fishin' Blues", and "Queen Bee" are just some of the songs Taj is known for. He has traveled the globe, going on tour with his music. During Deva's Dating Around episode, she explained that she has ed her dad on the road. Deva also has a music career of her own and released a song, "Fire", in 2018, which is featured at the end of episode 3.
It was clear from the get-go that Deva oozed soul, and it wasn't until she dropped the line concerning her father that everything made sense. Deva's sister said that since moving to New Orleans from New York, she has come into her own, but added, "I'd love to see her have a joyful romantic experience with someone." Deva had some challenging conversations when it came to her date with True and also had the pleasure of an "I think we should just be friends" chat with Brooke, but all in all, her dates seemed to be enjoyable and she hit it off with both Touré and Maria.
At the end of the episode, viewers see Deva go for a bike ride with Maria. With any luck, they're still dating today as the pair seemed a great match. It definitely looked as though Deva felt most comfortable with Maria and it sounds like she's very much ready for a fulfilling relationship. Deva's sister added, "My sister Deva loves really deeply. But ever since a couple of heartbreaks I haven't really seen her surrender to romance. I think she's trying to relearn her heart, in a way." Deva and Maria follow each other on in a relationship.
