Darkwing Duck, will soon share the comic spotlight with his nemesis: Negaduck. This Fall, Dynamite comics will add Negaduck to its Disney comic offerings. This series will focus on Darkwing's evil alter ego, who debuted in the animated series, but also appeared in the 2017 show DuckTales, with a new origin.
Darkwing Duck's evil alter ego has two origins within the original series, with one being a split version of the hero resulting from an invention made by the villain, Megavolt. The other states Negaduck came from the Negaverse, a parallel universe. Since the Darkwing Duck comic has largely seemed to draw its inspiration from the original series, it's likely Negaduck will similarly follow his classic appearances over his more recent DuckTales iteration.
Darkwing Duck's Arch Nemesis Returns to Disney Comics
On Twitter, the editor of the Negaduck series, Nate Cosby, shared the news. Additionally, Cosby shared cover art and a preview of the first issue. It is slated to release in September and has the creative team of Jeff Parker, Ciro Cangialosi, and Jeff Eckelberry. While it is not part of the official Disney Villains line of comics that Dynamite Comics has recently been publishing, it will still prominently feature one of the entertainment company's most underrated villains. Though Negaduck has been featured in several Darkwing Duck comic issues over the years, this will be the first time he will headline his own series.
The preview for Negaduck #1 reveals the issue's cover by Joshua Middleton and the inclusion of a minor villain that big fans of the original Darkwing Duck show may : Lilliput Gooney. Lilliput is like a villainous version of Ant-Man, albeit with goofier schemes fitting the show's tone and humor. He has a helmet allowing him to communicate with ants and a ray gun he uses to shrink buildings, which he places within his minigolf business, Goony Golf. The ants serve as his henchman, though the preview suggests he has extended his reach to a variety of other insects.
The variant covers focus on the titular villain, not providing additional details regarding what this series will be about or who else will make cameos. Artists for these include Jae Lee and June Chung, Trish Forstner, and Steve Lieber. Lee and Chung's cover shows Negaduck trying to smash a statue of Darkwing Duck. Forstner portrays a riff on the Pepe Silvia meme inspired by It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Cosby shared that Lieber's cover is a requested homage to the comic creator's series, Whiteout which was published by Oni Press in 1998. Fans will see what schemes Disney's Negaduck is getting up to when the Darkwing Duck villain's series debuts in September.
