Warning! Spoilers For DC All In Special #1!Darkseid just definitively proved his status as the worst father in the DC Universe by murdering his own son, Kalibak, and it was just as brutal as fans wanted it to be. There are a lot of bad fathers in fiction. Some DC fans even argue that Batman isn't a good father. But everyone can agree that one of the worst fathers around will always be Darkseid.
key to Darkseid becoming more powerful than ever.
Kalibak isn't exactly a well-liked character, as he is often quick to violence and loves cruelly torturing his victims. Kalibak's death was a long time coming, and after 53 years, Darkseid gives his son one of the most brutal and unexpected deaths in comics.
Darkseid's Murder of Kalibak Granted Him One Single Wish
DC All In Special #1 by Joshua Williamson, Scott Snyder, Daniel Sampere, Wes Craig, Dan Mora, Alejandro Sánchez, Mike Spicer, Tamra Bonvillain, and Steve Wands
Kalibak has been one of Darkseid's most loyal generals for over five decades. He's the only child of Darkseid who is on even remotely good with their father. Kalibak has carried out Darkseid's will unquestioningly for decades, even going to Earth to fight Superman and, on one occasion, to steal the corpse of Batman's son - all on Darkseid's orders. This loyalty would earn a reward from most people, but Darkseid has only ever seen Kalibak as a means to an end, which is proven perfectly when Darkseid sacrifices his child for his own plans.

DC Elevates an Iconic Villain to the Same Threat-Level as Darkseid
Darkseid may have his sights on conquering the DC Universe but Absolute Power’s mastermind Amanda Waller has her own plan for the multiverse.
Needing to use his blood to activate the Miracle Machine, a device that can grant wishes, Darkseid realizes he can use his own family instead of sacrificing his blood directly. With that in mind, Darkseid brutally murders Kalibak by stabbing him through the chest and tossing him into the Miracle Machine, finalizing the device and allowing Darkseid to make a wish to bind the Spirit of Vengeance to him. Darkseid doesn't even give a second thought to killing who is essentially his only son.
Even Darkseid's Own Family Isn't Safe from His Wrath
Kalibak Serves Darkseid's Goals Even in Death
Family is one of the greatest strengths in the DC Universe. They lift heroes - and even some villains - up and each other when literally no one else in the world will. But Darkseid doesn't care for the help of others, and, as the personification of tyranny, all he cares about is control and power. While Kalibak was once a loyal soldier to Darkseid, he makes an even better sacrifice. Absolutely nothing will stand between Darkseid and his quest for power - not the Justice League, and certainly not his own son.
