Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman #147 ahead!DC's newest the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh, is tightening his hold on Gotham and bringing it under order by any means necessary. A new ability modeled after a piece of tech from the Christopher Nolan films shows just how far Zur-En-Arrh is willing to go to see his mission through.

In a preview for Batman #147 by Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez, Damian Wayne, still under the impression that Zur-En-Arrh is his father, walks in on the new Batman conducting an experiment. Zur-En-Arrh reveals that this Batman is using tech incorporated in Failsafe's body to listen in on every electronic device in Gotham.

As Robin relays his belief in Zur-En-Arrh, the Dark Knight picks up on a signal that draws his attention. Zur-En-Arrh leaves Damian in the Batcave and heads out to keep an eye on the ceremony for Gotham City's brand new Police Commissioner, the immortal villain Vandal Savage.

Zur-En-Arrh is Using Powerful Sonar Tech to Spy on Gotham

Zur-En-Arrh Takes Down Riddler DC

Batman's backup personality has tired of living in Bruce Wayne's mind and is ramping up a crusade to eliminate crime all across the multiverse. Zur-En-Arrh transferred his consciousness from Batman's head to the indestructible Failsafe body. Armed with a body that could take on the Justice League, Zur-En-Arrh imprisoned Batman and took to Gotham where the new Caped Crusader began arresting criminals left and right. Zur-En-Arrh tried and failed to convince the Bat-Family he was actually Batman, except for Damian, who ed his father to finally bring an end to crime in Gotham.

Fans may note a similarity between Zur-En-Arrh's unlawful surveillance and Batman's sonar tech from The Dark Knight. The only difference is that the film's version of Bruce knew that that kind of technology was too much for one person to control and had it destroyed by Lucius Fox after it served its purpose. Zur-En-Arrh on the other hand, shows no qualms ing this kind of system as it's helping him bring Gotham under his iron rule all the quicker. This difference shows just how amoral Zur-En-Arrh truly is and how nothing will keep DC's newest Batman from attaining order.

Zur-En-Arrh Uses Tech The Dark Knight's Batman Knew Was Wrong

The Dark Knight promo poster featuring Batman standing in front of a burning bat symbol.

The Dark Knight's Bruce did engage in a city-wide spying operation but he was trying to stop one of the worst terrorist attacks Gotham had ever seen. Zur-En-Arrh, on the other hand, is wantonly engaging the unauthorized surveillance feeling it's justified since it assists in him keeping Gotham safe. While both Batmen have used tech to spy for their own purposes, The Dark Knight's Bruce knew it was wrong and made sure no one, not even him, could use it again. But DC's new Batman is happy to use this tech and increase his fascistic control on Gotham.

Batman #147 is available on May 7th from DC Comics.
