Wilson Fisk's Kingpin was shot before MCU projects. To that end, it's in these projects he was attacked and gradually recovered from being shot.

Originally a major New York crime lord, Daredevil: Born Again sees Wilson Fisk elected as New York's mayor, a new method of claiming power and controlling the city rather than from the underworld. However, he'll still be carrying the scars of his past, both of the figurative and literal variety. To that end, this includes the scars Kingpin received after he was shot in the face in his first MCU appearance since Daredevil season 3.

Kingpin Was Shot In Hawkeye By Echo

Directly In The Face

Maya Lopez about to shoot Kingpin in Hawkeye episode 6

At the end of 2021's Hawkeye, it was revealed that Wilson Fisk was in charge of the Tracksuit Mafia. Kate Bishop's mother Eleanor answered to Fisk as well, having been forced to work for the Kingpin to continue paying off the debts of Kate's late father. One of the Tracksuit captains was Maya Lopez aka Echo, whom Fisk considered to be family, having helped care for her since she was a girl. He'd also taken her under his wing after her father was killed by Clint Barton's Ronin during the Blip.

However, Barton reveals to Lopez that it was Fisk himself who tipped him off about the Tracksuit meeting the night her father was killed, as Kingpin had grown displeased with him. Upon learning the truth, Maya leaves the Tracksuits and confronts her "uncle" at the end of Hawkeye. While Fisk tries to reason with Maya, she cuts him off by shooting Kingpin in the head and leaving him to die.

How Kingpin Survived Being Shot

Wilson Fisk Was Blinded In His Left Eye

In 2024's Echo, it was revealed that Fisk surprisingly survived the gunshot to the face. Rather than being mortally wounded and killed, the bullet simply blinded Fisk in his left eye as a mirror to the original comics when he was indeed shot by Maya Lopez. As confirmed by the MCU Special Presentation, Fisk received emergency care in enough time that he didn't even suffer any lasting damage. Case in point, Fisk is shown in Echo removing his bandages, revealing some significant scarring around his eye, but his vision restored and still intact.

The first Daredevil: Born Again reactions are out, and the positive reviews prove that the new MCU series is a worthy successor to Netflix's Daredevil

As seen in Netflix's Daredevil and in both Hawkeye and Echo, Wilson Fisk is a large and impressively strong man. As such, it seems as though Fisk was strong enough (and lucky enough) to survive being shot in the face, when all logic and probable reason would suggest that he shouldn't have been able to walk away from such a point-blank attack. However, it helps to have the comics precedent, even if the odds of logical reason are arguably out of his favor.

Why Kingpin Barely Has A Scar From Being Shot

It's Implied His Recovery Was Cutting Edge

Kingpin in Daredevil Born Again talking

When Fisk is shown removing his bandages and the eyepatch in Echo, the eyepatch itself is shown to have some technological components. While these components and what they did aren't specified, the implication is that Fisk's recovery was cutting edge and the best that money could buy. As such, one could guess that Fisk's recovery was probably more on the fictional side considering how well he looks in Daredevil: Born Again.

In the new MCU show, the scarring around Kingpin's eye can still be seen. However, it's very much faded and covered by makeup compared to what was seen in 2024's Echo. To that end, it's possible that Fisk had some reconstruction and light plastic surgery done to make the scars not so noticeable. After all, he did choose to run for office at the very end of Echo, and appearances are important (especially in politics). While the fact that Kingpin survived getting shot point-blank in the face does require some suspension of disbelief, it is nice that he still has the scars to some degree in Daredevil: Born Again.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again will be released Tuesday nights on Disney+.
