Warning: SPOILERS for Episode #5 of Dan Da Dan

Dan Da Dan is one of the most unpredictable series to have come out of Shōnen Jump in recent years, and its ongoing anime has finally revealed its central premise that's about as unusual as anyone could have predicted. The series began turning heads as early as its first episode, and doesn't seem willing to slow down any time soon, continuing to pack hilarious punch after hilarious punch week after week.

After four episodes of paranormal hijinks, Episode #5, fittingly titled, "Like, Where Are Your Balls?!" has finally introduced the anime's main premise: Okarun and friends are on a quest to retrieve his reproductive organs. Not only is Dan Da Dan boasting one of the funniest plotlines in anime, but is proving itself to be wholly unique compared to its contemporaries in doing so. While other shōnen protagonists are fighting for greater causes or in the name of heroism, Okarun just wants his family jewels back.

Dan Da Dan's Main Plotline Revolves Around The Protagonist's Family Jewels

This Quest Will surely Turn More Heads

Through its first four episodes, Dan Da Dan operated strictly as a monster of the week anime, never straying far enough from whatever conflict was introduced in the prior episode. After defeating Turbo Granny, it seemed that Momo and Okarun were in the clear, and with no imminent threat present, the two wandered the hallways of their school waiting impatiently for the chance to talk with one another. The episode was a light-hearted affair, building on the dual protagonists' growing romance until Okarun went to the bathroom and found his private area to be missing some parts.

Okarun exclaiming that his family jewels are gone in Dan Da Dan.

It was later revealed that Turbo Granny was still hiding inside Okarun, biding her time before regaining the strength to take revenge. After being beaten out of him, her consciousness was transferred to a Maneki-neko, or traditional Japanese cat doll, where she will remain for the remainder of the series. This revelation officially kicks off the journey which acts as the ludicrous driving force behind Dan Da Dan.

Dan Da Dan's Ridiculousness Is What Makes It Special

Anything and Everything Is Possible in Dan Da Dan

Dan Da Dan has been anything but regular since its premiere, and that is precisely what sets it apart from other popular, currently airing anime. Now that the series' main conflict has been revealed, Momo and Okarun are destined to undergo even wackier adventures, encountering all sorts of spirits and aliens. When a plot point as random as retrieving private parts becomes central to a story, absolutely nothing is off the table. And given how the series has operated thus far, it's fair to assume nothing will be held back.

As Dan Da Dan progresses, it's certain the story will continue to be as humorous and unpredictable as its beginning sections have been. The next episode promises the introduction of a brand-new character, likely plunging Momo and Okarun into a new conflict that the two will have to resolve together. The series has been one of the wildest of the season so far, and will certainly continue to bring excitement and style in future episodes.
