Avengers. However, despite Steve Rogers’ many talents, he still isn’t the most skilled Captain America because the X-Men’s leader, Cyclops, once took up the Captain America mantle. While Captain America is no rookie when it comes to his own weapon, Scott Summers is far more adept at wielding the iconic shield.

In Ultimate Fantastic Four/Ultimate X-Men Annual #1, written by Aron Coleite and Joe Pokaski, with art by Dan Panosian and Mark Brooks, within Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, the future remnants of the Fantastic Four and the X-Men team up to stop Reed Richards. After Steve Rogers’ death at the hands of Mister Fantastic, Cyclops takes up Captain America’s shield to become Captain X-Merica.

Cyclops takes Captain America's shield and becomes Captain X-Merica

Captain America and Cyclops are on equal footing with their exceptional leadership abilities, but Cyclops’ mutant power of calculating trajectory makes him vastly more proficient in using the shield than Steve Rogers himself.

Cyclops’ optic blast and instinctive understanding of trigonometry allow him to use the shield in ways that are nearly impossible for Steve Rogers.

Cyclops' Powers Make Scott Summers a Better Captain America than Steve Rogers

Scott Summers Took up the Captain America Mantle (& Absolutely Dominated)

Cyclops is known for his iconic optic blast that allows him to shoot energy at his opponents, acting as a concussive brute force being hurled out at his desired target. However, Scott Summers also has a lesser-known ability, which is his spatial awareness. Though it may not sound as compelling as a concussive optic blast, Cyclops’ understanding of the space around him and his sharp, ingrained sense of trigonometry allow him to instantly use angles to ricochet and bend his optic blasts off surfaces to hit his targets. This skill is incredibly useful when using projectiles like Captain America’s shield.

After years of honing his skills, Steve Rogers is undeniably an expert when it comes to using his own shield; however, Cyclops’ optic blast and instinctive understanding of trigonometry allow him to use the shield in ways that are nearly impossible for Steve Rogers. It’s been shown that Cyclops can instantaneously take out any number of targets with a single blast. Steve Rogers may be a skilled hero, possibly even more skilled than Cyclops when it comes down to hand-to-hand combat, but Cyclops is simply unmatched in his tactical abilities and his dynamic range.

Captain America’s Shield in Cyclops’ Skilled Hands Would Be a Lethal Combination

Scott Summers’ Skills Make Him More Attuned to Projectile Weaponry

Cyclops vs Captain America

Steve Rogers is a veteran when fighting with his titular weapon of choice, and he has been shown to ricochet his shield many times, but Cyclops' power set arguably makes him vastly more efficient. Cyclops' mutant ability to absorb energy and his elite grasp of spatial awareness enable him to make Captain America's shield twice as lethal. As the X-Men and the Avengers often have separate objectives, it’s unlikely Scott would ever become Captain America in the main Marvel Universe, but Scott’s uniquely defined abilities surprisingly make Cyclops better suited to master the Captain America shield than Steve Rogers.
