Cyberpunk 2077 is full of mysterious characters and quests, most of which can be further understood as players explore Night City. But there remain some who, no matter how hard V searches, have secrets impossible to untangle. These characters are involved in sinister corporate plots, mysterious gigs, and some even have powers bordering on magical.
While these parts of the game remain mysteries, that hasn't stopped players from investigating them thoroughly to look for answers. These ten parts of Cyberpunk 2077 remain among the most puzzling and perplexing, drawing discussion to this day.
10 Who Was Responsible For The Peralez Brainwashing?
Political Manipulators Gunning For Control Of Night City
One of the more interesting side quests the game has to offer revolves around Jefferson Peralez, who is running for mayor of Night City, and the weird experiences of him and his wife, Elizabeth. They first hire V to look into their political rival's death, hinting already at their awareness of political plots in the mayoral race. But they hire V again when they come to believe they are being spied upon in their own homes, pulling at a thread that could unravel their entire lives.

How To Complete The 'I Fought The Law' Quest in Cyberpunk 2077
To complete the "I Fought The Law" quest in Cyberpunk 2077, players must accompany an ND Detective on an investigation regarding an assassination.
As it turns out, it goes further than simple spying: the Peralez family has been being changed, brainwashed slowly over time to remove certain memories and shape them into ideal political candidates. Someone -- or something -- wants these two to gain power in Night City, and has taken over their identities to accomplish that goal. It's up to V whether to tell Jefferson this is happening to him, but no matter what they choose, the identity of the brainwasher is never learned.
9 How Does The Konpeki Plaza Bartender Know What He Does?
All-Knowing Or A Master Liar
Turning to a much smaller instance of strangeness, V can meet a friendly bartender in Cyberpunk 2077's Konpeki Plaza during the initial Relic heist. He will crack jokes and treat V with familiarity, even commenting on ways their life paths seem to be similar. Then, this bartender drops a bomb: they know that V does not belong there, and is lying about who they are.
While this man is indistinguishable from the other golden workers in the hotel, his attitude and awareness set him apart, and his conversation leaves an eerie impression on the player. It's entirely possible, given how this bartender changes up his own life story depending on the player's background, that he is just a good liar, and is messing with V for the sake of it. But there are several characters in Cyberpunk 2077 who seem to possess an omnipotent level of knowledge, and this bartender stands among their creepy ranks.
8 Was Brendan Ever Really Sentient?
A Vending Machine With A Heart
Speaking of characters who know more than they should, Brendan is a vending machine, or S.C.S.M., that seems to possess a level of sentience. He is far more capable of empathy and understanding than other models of his type and seems to even form friendships with humans, including V.
The end of this robot's quest sees him rebooted, and dialogue from V can imply that he was never truly sentient — only an advanced program good at replicating speech and learning from what it overhears. Still, there are a couple of times when Brendan says things about V that seem impossible for him to know; specifically, he mentions how V is dying from the Relic in their head. Sentient or not, how Brendan knew so much or acted the way he did remains a mystery, and since he's "dead," it's one that can never be truly solved.
7 Who Was Garry The Prophet Hearing?
What Happened To This Champion Of The Truth?
Garry the Prophet is an NPC players will likely meet early in the game, preaching outside of Misty's Esoterica about lizard people and techno-necromancers. He seems at first like a comic relief character intended to satirize conspiracy theorists, but continuing to interact with him reveals that there's some truth to what he says. Garry claims to hear voices in his head due to a faulty implant, and in all likelihood, that's true.

Cyberpunk 2077: Misty and Jackie's History, Explained
How did V’s best friend meet the owner of Misty’s Esoterica? Here’s everything we know about Jackie and Misty’s history in Cyberpunk 2077.
Information he gives V ends up revealing a secret meeting between Maelstrom and a mysterious pair of corpos, something he could not have known about otherwise. Shortly after V witnesses and potentially stops this meeting, Garry goes missing, apparently abducted by the same group he was listening in on. We can never know who exactly Garry was hearing or why he was able to, but Johnny theorizes it was a secret corpo deal with the Maelstrom gang, one that Garry paid for learning about with his life.
6 Who Is The Zen Master?
A Magical Figure Or A Con Artist
The Zen Master is a character who starts appearing in the game after V gets landed with the Relic, and appears in various places to offer the merc some guided meditation. The quests are some of the easiest in Cyberpunk to complete, as all they entail is a quick conversation, some VR relaxation, and an optional small donation. But the real mystery is the identity of the Zen Master, something the game tries very hard to conceal.
Notably, he's the only character in the game that V can see but Johnny cannot, and Johnny is always left unaware of their interactions. This has led many to believe he is a figment of V's imagination, but there is evidence that points to that not being true, either: the money V gives him does leave their , and Misty has a message on her terminal referencing the mystery man. He could be an advanced AI or an agent of a skilled netrunner; or, as Misty suspects, he could be something more spiritual.
5 What Does Mr. Blue Eyes Want?
The Secret Fixer Of Night City
Some players may have never heard of Mr. Blue Eyes, as he's only met directly in a certain ending. This enigmatic fixer appears in the Sun ending when V becomes a legend of the Afterlife, provided that Rogue perished during the Arasaka assault. He hires V to rob a space casino, the most ambitious gig in the game by far. His secretiveness puts Mr. Hands to shame, never revealing his true identity, his client, or anything beyond his moniker and the job he needs done.
Mr. Blue Eyes shares both physical and personal characteristics with two other iconic video game mystery men: the Illusive Man from Mass Effect, and the G-Man from Half Life.
That being said, there are a few other instances where Mr. Blue Eyes is definitely involved in the story. One is in the Phantom Liberty DLC, where he is the fixer who sets Songbird up with her gear to get to the moon. The other connects back to the Peralez brainwashing, as during that quest, he can be spotted standing on a balcony and looking at the mayoral candidate's windows. The man is a mystery, though his involvement in these high-stakes and secretive gigs hints that he is not someone to be reckoned with.
4 What Causes Cyberpyschosis?
The Reason Behind This Mysterious Affliction
The mystery of cyberpsychosis extends beyond Cyberpunk 2077 and into the tabletop games that inspired it. Cyberpsychosis is a state of violent madness that typically results in brutal outbursts and the loss of one's sanity. It is associated with people who implant high amounts of cyberware into their system, but the true causes of the disorder are not entirely understood. The game even includes a quest around studying cyberpsychos to try and find a "cure," though the outcome of that research is never seen.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Cyberpsychos Aren’t What You Think They Are
Cyberpsychos in Cyberpunk 2077 don't exactly have a great reputation, but creator Mike Pondsmith offers a tragic explanation of their affliction.
In most Cyberpunk media, however, this disorder is a death sentence, since the individuals afflicted become too dangerous to contain and are usually put to death by the MaxTac special ops. What we do know is that it seems most common in people who implant themselves with inherently violent and dangerous cyberware, such as mantis blades, and seems to correlate with those experiencing high stress and grief. Ultimately, it's impossible to discern its exact cause, which is what makes the disorder so dangerous.
3 What Exactly Did Rogue Do?
A Secret Betrayal?
Rogue can become one of V's more powerful allies, a well-connected fixer and veteran of many gigs. Her status as queen of the Afterlife and an old friend of Johnny's makes her a likable character, and she can be a big help to V in curing themselves of the Relic. But it's implied that Rogue's past is a little more gray than she lets on. In fact, she may be acting primarily out of guilt for betraying a certain rockerboy decades ago when she aids V.
Rogue could have intentionally dropped Johnny during their rooftop escape from Arasaka HQ, but that part of Johnny's memory is likely unreliable or even completely fabricated. According to Cyberpunk lore, Johnny was likely defeated before ever reaching the rooftop.
Based on dialogue with Grayson and Adam Smasher, it seems Rogue "sold out" to Arasaka. This goes against her old values, as flashbacks show her being strongly anti-corp, but doesn't explain exactly what she did. She justifies her past actions by saying she did what she needed to do to survive, but it's clear that she's wracked with guilt, and it seems primarily associated with Johnny. It's possible that she simply sees Johnny as a reminder of her old values, but Rogue may have betrayed Johnny more directly, either by causing his death or giving Arasaka information about Alt.
2 What Is Arasaka Testing In The Devil Ending?
Pointless Torture, Therapy, Or Something Else Entirely?
One of Cyberpunk 2077's more haunting and interesting endings is "The Devil," which sees V partner up with Hanako Arasaka to take down her brother in exchange for the corporation's treatment. After the coup succeeds, V is sent to a space station, where they endure months and months of excruciating experimental treatment. Johnny has been removed from V's head, but more work must be done to ensure they survive.
At the end, players can choose to be frozen until Arasaka can guarantee a cure, or return to earth with their mind and body broken to live out the rest of their life as a free person. It's a tough choice, and it leaves the question open: did Arasaka ever actually intend to help V? The corporation is known for its ruthlessness, and V already stole from them. It's entirely possible that this "treatment" was simply a series of experiments to understand how the Relic affected V, not to cure them.
1 Did Dex And T-Bug Intend To Betray V?
How Much Of This Content Was Truly Cut?
It's no secret that a good deal of T-Bug's story was cut from the game, which originally included implications that she was planning to betray V and Jackie before she died. Given that that was cut, it's unfair to assume that that part of her story still applies to the game, but several weird parts about her involvement in the heist beg the question: were Dexter DeShawn and T-Bug originally planning to abandon V and Jackie?

Cyberpunk 2077 Theory – How Dex And T-Bug Are Connected
Fans have theories about the relationship between the fixer Dexter DeShawn and the netrunner T-Bug, given their interactions in game.
Dex is a proven traitor who has no problem discarding of his crew for his own benefit; in fact, something like this was likely what caused his earlier banishment from Night City. T-Bug apparently helped him escape the city last time around, and the two certainly seem to know more about each other and the heist than they let on. Earlier versions of Cyberpunk 2077's first act could have seen Dex and T-Bug intentionally get V and Jackie killed to collect their share of the reward, though not enough information is left in the final product to give this theory any weight.
