Cuphead was undoubtedly one of the most important games on the Xbox One last year, and now the title has had some DLC confirmed. While the Xbox One was struggling in of exclusive AAA games, the retro cartoon-themed side-scrolling shooter was picking up some major plaudits for its design and animation, and earning some well deserved jealous glances from those without access to a PC or Xbox One.

This year's E3 presentation saw some major Xbox franchises come back to the fore, with the announcement of Gears of War 5 is on the way. With that in mind, some may have worried that Cuphead would be altogether forgotten in favor of its flashier, big budget stablemates. However, it turns out that there's life left in Cuphead yet.

News of Cuphead's DLC was revealed via a game trailer that can be seen above. Called The Delicious Last Course, the content pack takes the player to a brand new island, and introduces a new playable character in the form of Ms. Chalice. Complete with her own abilities, Ms. Chalice is playable both through the DLC pack itself and the original campaign of Cuphead.

From the sounds of it, having an extra pair of hands is certainly going to help matters. The new island is going to apparently include the "most wacky and monstrous bosses Cuphead has faced yet," which certainly sounds like an equally daunting experience to the core game. However, Cuphead and company will have some assistance along the way, in the form of new weapons and charms to use.

At the moment no specific release date has been confirmed for the DLC, but launch has been set for date at some point in 2019. That leaves a pretty wide window for developer Studio MDHR to put the finishing touches on the game, and to make sure that the new content matches up seamlessly with the original Cuphead experience. No doubt further information will be revealed soon.

Cuphead did tremendously well from both a critical and commercial perspective, and so hopefully The Delicious Last Course provides an excellent further chapter in the adventures of Cuphead. However, that's still a long time to wait for DLC, even one with as impressive an animation style as Cuphead itself. Hopefully, fans of the original game will still be tempted to come back to the extra content when it does see release.
