An official Crytek video examining leaked gameplay footage showed poor visuals and drew backlash from fans.

Crysis, originally released in 2007, is a first-person shooter video game developed by Crytek that features characters in sci-fi nanosuits taking military action against North Korean soldiers, mercenaries, and technologically advanced aliens known as the Ceph. A longtime technical marvel, it isn’t the only video game getting the remastered treatment for the Nintendo Switch. According to reports, a trilogy of Galaxy. However, these could be a ways off, while Crytek is adding some third-party remastered goodness in the short term.

Shared by Crytek, the game’s newest trailer highlights vegetation bending, a destructible environment, dynamic lighting, depth of field and motion blur, maximum explosions, and more. Active combat and vehicle utilization also surface in the trailer, with instrumentals playing over the gunshots and fiery warfare. Also, there’s a shark.

Reactions have been mostly positive, with fans excited about the Nintendo Switch port, which is being made with assistance from Saber Interactive. However, jesting about the difficulty even modern gaming PCs have running Crysis at 60 FPS, some commenters have inquired as to whether the Nintendo Switch can run Crysis at 60 frames per second. The trailer itself was captured at 30 FPS, leaving that question unanswered for now.

A fourth entry in the franchise has been a highly anticipated title since the release of Crysis 3 in 2013. Crytek hasn’t announced any plans to develop another sequel, but - if Crysis Remastered performs well - it’s possible Crytek could consider giving fans what they’ve been craving for years. Developers often use remasters as a gauge on whether they should proceed with another project developed from the ground up, basing their decision on fan reactions. However, Crytek would be hard pressed to not consider Crysis 4 a worthy endeavor given it’s a game that’s been in demand for at least seven years.
