At long last, developer Crytek has confirmed what many of its fans have long awaited - 2020's Crysis Remastered, which launched for last-gen consoles and PC. The developer even published a version of the classic PC experience for the Nintendo Switch.
As players will , Crysis Remastered suffered mightily at launch across all platforms, especially consoles. Framerate issues served as the biggest hiccup, often derailing the flow of combat and exploration. Crytek managed to fix most of the remaster's troubles, then followed those efforts up with a remastered collection that featured all three of the Crysis titles. Crysis Remastered Collection landed in October 2021; it, too, had a fair few technical issues but felt like a competent port overall. Of course, Crysis faithful remained hopeful for a fourth entry and it seems such hopes will eventually bear fruit.
Months after the release of Crysis Remastered Trilogy, Crytek has ed a teaser trailer for Crysis 4. The 47-second clip begins with footage of the sun, more specifically sun bursts. Then concrete, falling, rising, exploding, and finally tumbling on top of a character who looks a lot like Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 protagonist Prophet. Presumably, this is all imagery related the events of the third mainline entry, which took place in New York City. The teaser doesn't offer much in the way of specifics, of course. Thus, details about the story and lead character remain under wraps. Information regarding platforms and a potential release window were similarly left out, though a blog post from Crytek describes the title as a "truly next-gen shooter." See the trailer in the post linked below:
The final few seconds or so of the teaser video make it seem as though the Nanosuit is being fully reformed, which could indicate that Crysis hero Prophet's story is not yet complete. As of now, there exists no word on when exactly Crytek plans to unleash more concrete information about the long-awaited shooter.
Crysis first launched in 2007, serving as little more than a gorgeous technical showcase on PC. The "Can it run Crysis?" meme began there and continued to hold weight through the February 2013 release of Crysis 3. Undoubtedly, this new installment will push modern technology to its limits in some way, shape, or form.
Crysis 4 is currently in development for unspecified platforms and will launch at an unspecified time, per the teaser trailer.
