Criminal Minds season 18 is slated for release this year. All seasons of the show are available to stream on Paramount+, with select seasons available on Hulu and Netflix.

Per Paramount, Criminal Minds has been officially renewed for season 19. This decision comes before the premiere of Criminal Minds season 18, which Paramount also confirmed would debut on May 8. The number of episodes and other major information about season 19 has yet to be revealed.

What This Means For Criminal Minds

This Leaves Story Possibilities Open For Season 18

The renewal of Criminal Minds season 19 before the premiere of season 18 shows just how much faith Paramount+ is putting in the series. Its long-running nature is, of course, a sign that the series is likely to continue to do well. This early renewal could also expand the story potential for Criminal Minds season 18, as there will not be any pressure for a full resolution, leaving the option open for a cliffhanger ending or other looser story threads.

Paramount+ has come a long way from its humble beginnings as CBS All Access - as the stellar lineup of the 30 best shows on Paramount+ proves.

The renewal announcement also showcases Paramount's ongoing commitment to longer-running series. A more nascent streamer, Paramount+ is not nearly the kind of content mill that a competitor like Netflix is, putting out multiple new series a month. The streamer is, however, committed to the longer-term continuation of series in CBS and Paramount Global's purview, producing seasons of shows like SEAL Team, Young, and Ink Master. Criminal Minds: Evolution will now be a big part of this landscape as it will have had at least four seasons on Paramount+.

Our Take On The Criminal Minds Renewal

It Comes At A Time When A Lot Of Shows Are Being Cancelled

Paget Brewster as Prentiss in Criminal Minds: Evolution

The confirmed continuation of Criminal Minds for at least two more seasons, including the episodes, is comforting to those who have been saddled with the cancellation of several multi-season shows recently. CBS controversially ended Blue Bloods last year, and Fox wrapped up 9-1-1: Lone Star. This has left many procedural fans frustrated, especially in the case of Blue Bloods. Sinking energy into Criminal Minds is a great way for Paramount+ to retain procedural viewers and inspire them with confidence that their favorite shows can keep continuing.
