Creature Commandos gaining an excellent DC Universe Rotten Tomatoes score has placed the project in a promising position for the DCU, especially since it seems some of the characters and stories being put forward in the series will play important roles in the future of the universe. Some elements of the show have already been revealed, with the plans for many of these characters finally beginning to come into focus.

As audiences eagerly await the time that Creature Commandos releases, it is worth reflecting on the suggested importance of the series. Following up on threads from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, the new series is set to launch the DCU, and will see several principal characters introduced who will be used in future animated and live-action projects. With this in mind, it is already clear that plans for following up on season 1 are being developed in the universe, although some of that may be occurring in a number of unexpected ways.

Creature Commandos season 2 has not yet been announced, although this does not mean that it will not occur. Superhero television series connected to cinematic universes have taken an unusual approach in recent years, with shows like WandaVision being followed up on in movies and spinoff shows, and the MCU not having any sequel seasons of shows until Loki, which announced season 2 during the credits of season 1, naturally gaining a big reaction as a result. DC will certainly be paying close attention to the success of Creature Commandos when figuring out how these characters will be used next.

With this in mind, showrunner Dean Lorey did speak to ScreenRant about a Creature Commandos season 2 possibility. In no uncertain , Lorey shared his desire, stating: "Yeah, we absolutely want to do a second season." He went on to suggest that where the story might go in a follow-up season may be clear by the end of season 1. With this in mind, it seems likely that details concerning the Creature Commandos themselves - and where they will fit into the future of the DCU - will become much clearer later in the series’ season 1 run.

How a sequel will materialize, however, seems to be in flux. Some comments have been made about Creature Commandos becoming a movie in its sequel instead of doing another season. James Gunn spoke to Collider, where he said, "We might decide that we want to do something different with Creature Commandos. We might want to go off and make the Creature Commandos movie." As such, it seems clear that plans for the future of the DCU will continue to evolve going forward, which could have its own effect on the chances of Creature Commandos season 2.

Creature Commandos Season 2 Cast: Who Could Return?

Not Everyone Will Likely Survive The First Season

Following James Gunn's previous entries in the DCEU, especially in The Suicide Squad, it feels unlikely that the full Creature Commandos will survive to the end of the season. As a result, while there is an excellent and full cast, the team will likely change in a future season. This was made clear by showrunner Dean Lorey, who suggested the possibility of a changed team in season 2: "You will see, at the end of the first season, some of the characters that might be part of that."

Many of these characters could be included in other DC stories, with Circe likely to appear in any Wonder Woman projects, and Rick Flag Sr. already confirmed for Superman and Peacemaker. Following this, it seems possible that Creature Commandos intends to reinvent the team with each installment, as was done between Suicide Squad and The Suicide Squad. Some characters, like Waller and John Economos, are likely to be present for a season 2, although the rest will depend on the needs of the story.

Creature Commandos is set to introduce a new team with various links to the larger DCU. Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr., has already noted his appearance in the Superman cast. As the universe grows larger, more stories about A.R.G.U.S. and its path forward putting together non-human teams will likely become more apparent. Details from season 2 will in all likelihood intersect with the films, as well as with directly connected planned series like Peacemaker season 2 and Waller.

Much of the new DCU is focused on building a large and inhabited universe with all kinds of heroes and villains. Creature Commandos is an excellent way to inject a number of creative heroes and villains into that world quickly. Whether in a season 2 or another project, many details regarding these characters and their team will surely play into the larger world.

The shape of the DC Universe is only beginning to become apparent, and it seems that much of Creature Commandos will work towards setting the whole world up. This makes it more challenging to speculate on what exactly a season 2 of Creature Commandos might look like prior to the first season's release, although it seems apparent that many of the characters and creatives involved will continue on in the burgeoning universe. Hopefully, the direction of the series and what it points toward in the larger DCU will come into focus soon, after the first episodes of Creature Commandos debut.
