Conan O'Brien departs from his talk show past in the trailer for Conan O'Brien Must Go and delves once more into the realm of international travel. This isn't the first time that O'Brien has wandered outside the boundaries of the traditional talk show format, as Conan Without Borders also saw O'Brien traveling around the globe and delving into the history of places like Italy, Israel, Haiti, and Japan. Now, he's traveling again, but with a slightly different purpose this time.
HBO Max's trailer for Conan O'Brien Must Go sees O'Brien traveling around the world to visit his fans who appeared on his Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan podcast.
The podcast has him interact with fans from around the globe to discuss nearly any topic. Hence, Conan O'Brien Must Go is a mixture of Conan Without Borders and Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan. The trailer sees him traveling to Norway and Thailand, where he surprises and chats with fans who appeared on his podcast and delves into the local culture and history with them.
Everything We Know About Conan O'Brien Must Go So Far
The release of Conan O'Brien Must Go's trailer means the former late night talk show host's highly anticipated Max project has finally been revealed. Reports of O'Brien's move to the streaming platform first arose in 2020 alongside the news that his long-time talk show, Conan, would end in 2021 after a 10-year run. However, until now, his project's name, premise, and format had remained a mystery. While the end of his talk show was disappointing for many, Conan O'Brien Must Go will allow them to see O'Brien return to the TV screen for the first since 2021.
Conan O'Brien Must Go has no release date yet on Max. However, it has been confirmed that the first season of the show will be four episodes. O'Brien will also serve as an executive producer on the series alongside longtime producer Jeff Ross. The trailer builds anticipation for O'Brien's new series showing that he will really be in his element.
While O'Brien is well known for being a talk show host, it can't be denied that he excels when he's outside the boundaries of the talk show format. What propelled him to prominence were his "remotes" in which he'd film bits outside the confines of the studio. He would go out and explore Ireland, visit Martha Stewart on the set of her show, or even give rides to New York commuters during the transit strike. Whatever it was, he was engaging with real people spontaneously and viewers were able to come along and learn from it. O'Brien's new travel series, Conan O'Brien Must Go, will allow him to combine former successes in a new format.
