Cult classic Lupin the Third and CAT'S EYE have also seen major comeback announcements, while Dragon Ball Daima is quickly becoming a beloved addendum to the franchise. Code Geass can now be confidently added to the list of old dogs confidently showing off their new tricks, thanks to the recent announcement of several surprising developments.

Code Geass has a perennial charm that leaves its fans always hungry for more. From its first entry, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, the series has gained a status as iconic as Jun Fukuyama's haughty (and haunting) portrayal of its titular character. While its most recent entry, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, wasn't received as warmly as the Lelouch-centered entries in the franchise—with a 6.6/10 on IMDB and a 6.57/10 on MyAnimeList at the time of writing—it was still a promising exhibition of the life left in Code Geass's expansive universe. The exciting recent announcements are a testament to that fact, too. Here's what Code Geass fans can expect in the near future.

Several Entries and a Theatrical Screening Event Are in The Plans For Code Geass

The Series Will Celebrate Its 20th Anniversary With Its Trademark Flair

Several new Code Geass works and events were announced during a screening of Lelouch of the Rebellion and Rozé of the Recapture, as reported by Natalie, a major Japanese entertainment news outlet. Starting with the news most distant from the majority of Western readers, an event will be held in Japan screening all 13 Code Geass films consecutively. No details on times have yet been provided.

As far as global news goes, it was announced that Code Geass's tower defense mobile and PC game, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Lost Stories, will soon receive a Recapture of Rozé chapter. Additionally, Code Geass's YouTube channel will be releasing compilation videos starting on December 29, 2024. Releases will be daily until January 3rd, 2025. The biggest news, however, is that several new works are underway to celebrate Code Geass's 20th anniversary in 2026. Precise details haven't been provided, but the news will be absolutely exhilarating to fans of the franchise.

Code Geass Still Has a Lot of Room to Grow

As Beloved as He Is, Lelouch Isn't the Linchpin of Code Geass

In recent years, Code Geass has grown into an immense breadth. Fans of the original series who haven't followed recent films might have the feeling that there aren't many new directions left for the series that don't cynically try (and fail) to recapture the magic of the original series. This couldn't be further from the truth, though, and Rozé of the Recapture is a perfect example. Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture didn't appear out of thin air; it's a sequel to 2019's Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, which itself is a sequel to a compilation film series recapping the original series but making minor tweaks and establishing an alternate universe.

This new continuity isn't a half-baked attempt to keep Code Geass on life ; the underlying political melodrama and moral interrogation the series levied on audiences in its original iteration is alive and well. Through creative reinterpretation and expansion, the sociopolitical superstructure that drove Code Geass and Lelouch alike is still right there. The original cast of characters is, by necessity, a thing of the past—but the spirit of the series lives on. Code Geass fans who didn't love Rozé of the Recapture should keep an open mind, because it's actually proof that Code Geass's universe is a ripe foundation for building new, compelling characters and scenarios.

The new entries promised for 2026 should leave every Code Geass fan excited about seeing what comes next.
