Warzone Godzilla and King Kong crossover.

Call of Duty has long been a series focused on offering post-launch content, typically in the form of cosmetics, skins, and even additional game modes and multiplayer maps. This practice has dramatically increased in recent years, however, especially following the release of Call of Duty: Warzone. With this free-to-play battle royale game, Activision began churning out more content than ever, turning it into a full-blown live-service experience. This carried into subsequent releases Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and last fall's Call of Duty: Vanguard, as each of these titles added more themed Operator skins, map refreshes, weapons, and more. The game's expansions and updates don't seem to be slowing down in the slightest, with a recent announcement detailing changes for the current Warzone Rebirth map.

More left-field content additions are on their way, according to a recent post on the official Call of Duty website. The announcement explains that a new Operator skin themed after none other than Snoop Dogg will be coming to Vanguard and Warzone on April 19, with select players getting early access to the skin on April 1. This expansion will come with three alternate outfits and an exclusive progression track. A separate Snoop Dogg skin will also be making its way to Call of Duty: Mobile.

Call of Duty Vanguard Snoop Dogg Skin

Long-time fans of the Call of Duty franchise might be reminded of the first time that Snoop Dogg showed up in one of the games. Way back in Call of Duty: Ghosts, the west-coast rapper made a memorable appearance as a DLC voice pack. With this operator skin, Warzone leaks regarding Snoop Dogg's appearance have been proven correct, indicating that he might even show up in a future Call of Duty game.

While this is certainly a fun addition and one that is likely to be welcomed by many fans, it is interestingly emblematic of Call of Duty's shift in identity over the past decade. What was once a series about cinematic storytelling and fast-paced, brutal multiplayer has become one more about flashy, wacky, and attention-grabbing live-service content. Many gamers have come to expect and appreciate this different approach, but others might want some more realism introduced to games following Vanguard.
